Fun Starts Here. |

Thursday 11th
March 2010
New York based three-piece fun. are set to release
their double A-side debut single ‘Walking
The Dog’ / ‘Be Calm’ as a limited
edition 7” vinyl, on March 29th through
Friends Vs Records. These two tracks are taken
from their forthcoming album ‘Aim &
Ignite’. ‘Aim & Ignite’
will be released on Hassle Records with exclusive
bonus content on May 31st.
fun. is what happens when three extraordinarily
talented musicians come together to create something
altogether new and wonderful. Nate Ruess, late
of The Format, has teamed up with multi-instrumentalist
Andrew Dost and Jack Antonoff, resulting in their
ingenious debut, Aim And Ignite. The trio melds
an array of diverse inspirations – spanning
Broadway to The Beach Boys, ‘Nilsson Schmilsson’
to ‘Pinkerton’ – into an irresistible
collection of freewheeling pop songcraft.
First track on the double A side, Walking the
Dog, has an early Vampire Weekend and Good Shoes
sensibility about it. Be Calm, arranged by Andrew
with Roger Joseph Manning Jnr, (Air, Beck, Jellyfish),
melds finely wrought chamber-pop orchestrations
– all brass and strings and multi-tracked
harmonies – with guitar-fueled rock ‘n’
roll, resulting in a distinctive sound which simultaneously
recalls the past yet remains very current.
Making their live debut in the UK, fun. are set
to play four London club dates in March:
March
Tue 23 The Social London SOLD OUT
Fri 26 Club NME @ Koko
Sat 27 Barfly, 1PM Under 18s London
Sat 27 Proud Galleries London
The band are currently on tour in the USA, and
will be back in the UK for a full tour later this
summer. Dates TBC

Killing
Joke New Album And Tour. |
 |
 |
Thursday 11th
March 2010
WITH A reputation forged in fire, brimstone and
magic, Killing Joke have long been one of rock’s
most iconic & influential outfits.
Now, 30 years since first bonding in blood, the
original line-up of Jaz Coleman (vocals), Geordie
(guitar), Youth (bass) and Paul Ferguson (drums)
are about to complete work on their 13th studio
album, the first fruits of a new worldwide deal
with the Spinefarm Records label, and word from
inside the camp is that ‘XIII: Feast Of
Fools’ is shaping up to be something very
special indeed…
“We have survived equipment being hi-jacked,
tapes being withheld, nervous breakdowns, family
bereavements, blood lettings, and a host of other
challenges of Biblical proportions,” comments
Youth. “But we are now at the final ascent,
and I have to say it’s one of the greatest
albums I have ever had the privilege to be involved
with… EVER! I have been living and breathing
it for over four months now, and I’m still
jaw-droppingly amazed at its power & beauty.
“It is with great pain that we had to make
the decision to postpone the European & American
tour until later in the year, but the wait will
be worth it. I guarantee double orgasms all round
when you hear the sound of Big Paul’s drum
kit reducing your senses to a pulp!”
Produced by the band, mixed by engineer Clive
Goddard, and now set for release on September
6th 2010, this latest set of recordings –
put together in London, Spain & Prague –
has seen the aforementioned musicians sharing
studio space for the first time in 28 years, having
already road-tested their relationship with sold-out
shows around the world, kicking off in Tokyo last
Autumn.
AS A RESULT of the new album moving back to September,
the band have also rescheduled their two UK shows.
The new dates are as follows:
October 2010
15 UK Picture House, Edinburgh
16 UK Hammersmith Apollo, London
OVER THE years, the four musicians have chosen
to develop their talents in a variety of ways:
triple Grammy winner Jaz Coleman, for instance,
has established an international reputation working
with some of the world’s greatest symphony
orchestras, whilst Martin ‘Youth’
Glover has become one of the UK’s most celebrated
producers, supervising albums from the Verve &
Primal Scream amongst others, as well as achieving
major success as one half of highly-regarded duo,
The Orb.
Covered by Metallica, Foo Fighters and more, Killing
Joke’s apocalyptic vision continues to draw
praise from such high-profile supporters as Jimmy
Page and Billy Corgan, and the band’s considerable
musical legacy can be heard in the works of Nirvana,
Ministry, Nine Inch Nails and the like –
artists whose rise to fame never saw them cutting
ties with the underground/alternative scene.
Once described by Paul Ferguson as ‘the
sound of the earth vomiting’, Killing Joke
are now poised to take their music of resistance
to a whole new level, both in the studio and on
the road.
As ever, the journey won’t be easily forgotten…
whether those involved wish to do so or not!

Moneen
Are Back With New Album. |
 |
 |
Thursday 11th
March 2010
Though the band’s fourth full-length offering
‘The World I Want To Leave Behind’
(out April 5th) features a number of “firsts,”
Moneen vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Kenny
Bridges assures us that this isn’t a new
band: “We weren’t trying to reinvent
ourselves as much as we were trying out some things
that we would have been scared of on previous
records.”
One wouldn’t think a band that’s effortlessly
able to weave such a wide array of influences
into their output would be “scared”
to try anything. After all, Moneen has always
thrived on their trademark melee of melodic components
– pop that has no business being so profound;
rock that shouldn’t be so ambient; punk
that has no right being so delicate. While that
familiar formula is what ultimately drives The
World I Want To Leave Behind, Bridges, bassist
Erik Hughes, guitarist/vocalist Chris “Hippy”
Hughes, and new drummer Steve Nunnaro have slightly
shifted their take on songwriting this time out.
“We enjoy writing music that makes us want
to jump off the walls and roll around on the ground
– while still maintaining a song’s
integrity, of course,” offers bassist Hughes
of his band’s general take on music making.
Indeed, this has been the template for the band’s
writing ever since forming in 1999 and dropping
the Smaller Chairs For The Early 1900s EP, a release
that would introduce the band’s shimming
guitar interplay and passionate, personal lyricism
to the world. Subsequent records, including 2003’s
Are We Really Happy With Who We Are Right Now?
and 2006’s The Red Tree, have seen a continual
refinement of the band’s writing and wordplay,
this effort being no exception.
“We took a more simplistic route this time
around to allow the songs to breath, and to really
let certain parts shine when they needed to,”
adds Hippy. Bridges agrees, explaining that with
The World I Want To Leave Behind, the band wanted
to start out simple when structuring a track –
letting the components work for the song and not
the song for the components.
Indeed, the album is the first with drummer Steve
Nunnaro, who the remaining band members cite as
a significant contributor when it came to crafting
these 12 songs. It’s also found the band
experimenting with new instruments – and
who’s playing them. Still, this is Moneen
– in the shape that those who’ve sweated
out the enthralling experience of their stage
show know so well.
“We pushed ourselves harder than ever for
this,” says Bridges with an air of pride.
“We knew there was no way we could fool
around with these songs. They were too important
to us.” This mentality translates through
the music with ease. Though there’s still
plenty of “jump-off-the-wall” jamming
to be found, it’s clear Moneen have truly
invested themselves into this offering, which
makes it all the more special to be invited into.
In addition to the release of ‘This Is The
World I Want To Leave Behind’, the band
have announced their first UK shows since their
support run with Brand New last year. This time,
the band tours alongside Emery. Dates below:
MAR 26: MANCHESTER Roadhouse
MAR 27: NOTTINGHAM Rescue Rooms
MAR 28: GLASGOW King Tuts

Sorry
And The Sinatras Head Back To The UK. |
 |
 |
Thursday 11th
March 2010
Following the release of their critically acclaimed
debut album “Highball Roller” in 2009,
Sorry And The Sinatras are set to tour the UK
in April 2010. the band are signed to Undergroove,
the label behind acts such as The Ghost Of A Thousand,
Hexes, Minus The Bear and Johnny Truant.
Formed by frontman / guitarist Scott Sorry –
who currently also plays a mean bass with UK rock
legends The Wildhearts – Sorry And The Sinatras
specialize in high octane, kick-ass punk rock
– high on flair, punishing, driving riffs,
and spit ‘n’ sawdust professionalism.
SATS also features fellow Americans Lenny Thomas
(drums) and Roger ‘Rag’ Segal (bass
/ vocals), as well as UK guitarist Dave Kerr.
The Anglo-American twist gives this quartet a
musical chemistry that is truly reflected in ‘Highball
Roller’.
‘Highball Roller’ is an honest, in-your-face
punk rock ‘n’ roll record that reflect
this quartet’s personalities – unpolished,
missing teeth and self-medicated! It’s an
album born out of years of searching for and finding
dreams.
Says Scott: “Lyrically this record is about
the years of couch surfing, addictions, heartache,
and restlessness spent chasing a dream. It’s
about guilt and coming to terms with the shit
you’ve done while letting go of the shit
you had no control over and laughing your ass
off in the process. It’s not about feeling
sorry for yourself, but embracing how chaotic
life can get. These are the most honest songs
we’ve ever written.”
From the opening, infectious track ‘Black
& Blue’, through the vitriolic snarl
and fury of ‘Burns City Burns’, to
the raucous anthems ‘Hated Heart’
and ‘Riverside’, to the aural cacophony
of closer ‘She’s So Vaudeville’,
Sorry And The Sinatras demonstrate just how good
rock music can be. ‘Highball Roller’
is a record that doesn’t just deserve to
be heard, but commands your attention and, frankly,
you won’t be disappointed. The album was
recorded during the summer of 2008 over 10 days
with Jason Sanderson (Rolo Tomassi, The Plight,
The Mirimar Disaster, GU Medicine). Are you ready
to get ‘High?
To tie in with the April 2010 tour, Undergroove
will be releasing a limited edition 7 inch of
single “Hated Heart”. This will also
be available on download with new new tracks.
Sorry And The Sinatras are set to tour the UK

The
Sword Working On New Material. |
 |
 |
Thursday 11th
March 2010
Having spent much of 2009 supporting Metallica
on their World Magnetic Tour, and a number of
2008 shows no less, sharing the stage/drums with
Lars Ulrich; The Sword are back in the Studio
recording their Third LP on Kemado Records. Speaking
to fans about the recording of the album, The
Sword’s Trivett Wingo had the following
to say…
“Sword fans everywhere, since you wouldn't
stop asking for a new album, we figured we'd write
some songs and give you what you deserve. Last
week we started recording our as yet untitled
third full length with producer and engineer Matt
Bayles here in Austin. We don't want to get too
far ahead of ourselves and of course you'll be
the judge, but let's say we have a strong intuition
that this will be our best release to date.”
Wingo went on to elaborate, “We've never
attempted something quite on this scale as far
as song-writing and sheer sonic magnificence go
and we're a little worried it might be TOO AWESOME
for you to handle. While you're waiting for this
baby to drop, you can check out our show at Stubb's
on March 16th with Year Long Disaster and some
old school metal band called Motörhead...”
Before forging the blade, the swordsmiths underwent
fasting and ritual purification. They then worked
at their anvils in white clothes, like the robes
of the priests. Their efforts were well rewarded.
The final result was a blade of unparalleled craftsmanship.
Its edge is made of metal so hard that it holds
razor sharpness even after repeated use in battle.
The Sword is an American heavy metal rock n' roll
band that was formed in Austin, Texas in 2003
and has existed in its current form since early
2004. Since then they have recorded and released
two full-length albums on Kemado Records. Their
third album for Kemado will be released later
this year.
Upcoming shows
Tuesday, March 16th - SXSW, Austin, Texas –
Stubb’s (supporting Motorhead)
Sunday, April 24, 2010 – Lola’s w/Eagle
Claw – Fort Worth, Texas

A little bit of SLAM DUNK history :
SLAM DUNK actually started as a rock club night
in 2001 at the legendary Cockpit in Leeds. It
specialised in the pop punk / emo / ska punk /
hardcore genres, and the brand also promoted shows
by some of the most popular of the bands in the
genres across Leeds. As these genres became more
popular over the years, the brand started to become
nationaly known as one of the original and best
associated with the music, branching out and starting
up the festival, as well as the record label that
launched You me at Six.
2008 saw the format change from a one stage festival
to the multi stage festival at Leeds University
it is today. With the increase of stages came
the increase in the number of bands, from international
and major UK bands to the smaller upcoming UK
bands. Being the only festival of its type to
do this, the awareness of the festival quickly
grew nationally. 2009 saw the festival grow even
more to a total of seven stages and with an overall
capacity of 5000 which sold out almost instantly.
Slam Dunk festival is now known for showcasing
new UK talent, picking up the likes of You Me
at Six in 2007 and Young Guns in 2009, as well
as bringing over the cream of US talent for a
UK audience. The list of previous bands includes
Paramore, Fall Out Boy, Thursday, The Academy
Is, Kids in Glass Houses, Hundred Reasons, Boys
like Girls, The Blackout, Twin Atlantic, The Ghost
of a Thousand, Devil sold his Soul, Attack! Attack!,

Pendulum
Are Back Better Than Ever. |
 |
 |
Tuesday 9th
March 2010
PENDULUM made one of the biggest breakthroughs
of recent years with their hit album ‘In
Silico’. Having sold over 1 million records
worldwide, the band completed a sell-out Academy
tour in 2008 and went on to smash the international
festival circuit last summer with killer appearances
at GLASTONBURY, DOWNLOAD, V and GLOBAL GATHERING
to name a few. Both Pendulum studio albums to
date – ‘In Silico’and the band’s
debut ‘Hold Your Colour’ – have
gone Platinum.
Now they’re back with their most visceral
and enthralling work with the album ‘Immersion’
that’s set for release on May 24th. The
first taster of the album will be the single ‘Watercolour’
that’s due for release on May 3rd.
‘Watercolour’ heralds a glorious evolution
in the Pendulum sound. Now utilising a richer
sonic tapestry than ever before, the sublime ‘Watercolour’
finds Rob Swire’s vocals alternating between
eerie distortion and full-blooded energy amidst
flourishes of horns and an atmospheric, tension
building breakdown. The track’s progressive
structure highlight’s Pendulum’s growing
strength in constructing contrasting dynamics.
“Please enjoy this refreshing musical beverage,
bottled at source from the sparkling clear streams
of Camden (and Perth, Australia). What better
way to start your immersive experience?”
(Rob Swire, Pendulum)
Already one of the most anticipated albums of
2010, the excitement building around ‘Immersion’
escalated following Pendulum’s exclusive
album preview DJ set at their EAR STORM night
at London’s Matter in January. The set was
streamed live to an audience of 200,000, with
a total of 350,000 people interacting with the
content on the day.
Pendulum take their brand new headline show bursting
with new material around the UK and IRELAND this
summer. The tour includes a landmark show at London’s
WEMBLEY ARENA and features support from SUB FOCUS

Story
OF The Year Reschedule Tour. |
 |
 |
Sunday 7th
March 2010
As promised, the postponed shows from earlier
this year have now been rescheduled. The new dates
are as follows: (original tickets remain valid):
April 2010:
25th Oxford, O2 Academybr
26th Norwich, Waterfront
27th Leeds, Cockpit
28th London, Relentless Garage
29th Stoke-on-Trent, Sugarmill
After a decade of world-wide touring, charting
singles and three fan-cherished albums selling
over a million copies to date, Story of the Year
have returned with an explosive new album, The
Constant, available now on Epitaph Records
Spending the best part of 2009 at home, Story
of the Year focused on stripping the excesses,
getting back to basics and re-energizing the music
that initially brought them together, before hitting
the studio with producer Elvis Baskette (Chevelle,
Cold, Escape The Fate) for their fourth studio
album and follow-up to 2008’s The Black
Swan. Holed up in a secluded studio, the band
proceeded to craft some of the best music of their
career.
“This was the fastest recording and writing
experience for us ever and it was cool because
we didn’t overthink everything,” explains
the band’s vocalist Dan Marsala—who
alongside guitarists Ryan Phillips and Philip
Sneed, bassist Adam “The Skull” Russell
and drummer Josh Willis make up Story Of The Year.
“Writing and recording The Black Swan was
a long, grueling process and this time we wanted
to do the opposite: just have fun, be spontaneous
and make it exciting—and it worked out better,”
he continues. “Everyone is so happy with
the end product and it was a great time.”
Fans of Story of the Year’s beloved debut
album Page Avenue as well as their most recent
release The Black Swan will be pleased to know
The Constant has something for everyone. The Constant’s
anthemic rock tracks and emotional ballads will
strike a familiar chord with long time fans while
newer converts will embrace the band’s notorious
raw energy and fresh songwriting. Showcasing their
musicianship and songwriting skills with radio-ready
tracks like the first single “I’m
Alive,” the snarling metal of “To
The Burial,” driving, post-hardcore masterpiece
“The Dream Is Over,” the soon-to-be
fan favorite sing along “The Ghost of You
and I” and the heartfelt piano ballad “Holding
On To You,” The Constant sees Story of the
Year sonically stretching to create their most
diverse and accomplished collection of songs yet.
The album’s title embodies the band’s
work ethic and commitment to both themselves and
their fans. “Music is the constant thing
in life for us,” Marsala explains. “When
I go to bed I think about music and when I wake
up it’s the first thing on my mind,”
he continues. “The Constant can mean anything;
hopefully our band will go on forever and we want
music to remain a constant thing in our lives
no matter what.”
Fans are encouraged to follow the band’s
Twitter/ Facebook pages for news, updates, contests,
free tickets and more.

show selling out – Third Eye Blind have
added a second UK headline date in May 2010. The
band are also set to release their first album
in over six years on April 12th 2010 through Mega
Collider Records, followed by a single “Don’t
Believe A Word” on the 10th May 2010.
The “Ursa Major” album has already
been released in the USA to widespread critical
and commercial acclaim. Charting at No 1 in the
Billboard Alternative charts and a career best
No 3 in the Billboard top 100. The Associated
Press hailed the album as "a musical gem"
and “a fine line between aggression and
a deft pop sensibility…Jenkins' lyrics juxtapose
poetry with profanity, anger with longing and
big world issues with the personal…”
Between 2007 and 2009 the band performed before
a remarkable 1 million people. Pure and authentic,
a canon of songs with no media coverage or radio
play have compelled a new generation of followers
by organic word of mouth alone. Fans attached
themselves to songs like “Slow Motion”
and “Motorcycle Drive By,” the former
of which was censored by their record company
but began appearing on file-sharing sites with
full lyrics, and is now hailed as a masterpiece
being covered by countless other bands.
“Now is a much better time for us. Technology
has democratized our ability to make and distribute
music straight to fans, and the perception of
the band has changed radically,” says Stephan
Jenkins, who is happily releasing this album through
the band’s own label, Mega Collider Records.
“People have been trading our songs over
the years. Third Eye Blind became a playlist;
this is a completely fan-based thing, complete
with those little chunks you get in homemade apple
cider.”
Emotional, ironic, reflective, aggressive, and
sometimes outwardly political, Ursa Major features
some of the most intense music of Third Eye Blind’s
career. Jenkins backs up what he sings, having
spent most of 2008 on the campaign trail lecturing
colleges on behalf of President Obama and writing
regularly about “taking progressives to
task for not standing up for themselves”
appearing on Air America and working on extreme
poverty issues with the organization ‘True
Meaning’.
Third Eye Blind blasted out of San Francisco when
"Semi-Charmed Life" went to # 1 at Modern
Rock and their self-titled album sold 6 million
copies worldwide in 1997. This debut album contained
several other chart-topping singles such as “Jumper,”
“How’s It Going To Be,” “Graduate”
and others cementing the band's place in music
history. The unique combination of brutal and
controversial lyrics mixed with infectious melodies
made an indelible connection with fans –
it’s a phenomenon that defines Third Eye
Blind and has made them the most requested band
on college campuses going on three years now.
Yes, this band’s audience keeps getting
younger. The band’s song “Jumper”
was recently used in Jim Carrey’s movie
Yes Man and regularly sells over 5,000 singles
a week, 10 years after its release.
Third Eye Blind are an established live draw.
The band are set to tour Europe in May 2010 –
the dates are as follows
Wednesday 5th May 2010 Trix Club, Antwerp (Belgium)
Thursday 6th May 2010 Elysee Montmartre, Paris
(France)
Saturday 8th May 2010 Melkweg, Amsterdam (Holland)

Time
To March With The Raptors |
 |
 |
Sunday 7th
March 2010
Formed in London in 2009, March Of The Raptors
are already causing a word-of-mouth buzz i n the
capital city thanks to their highly energetic
live shows and their distinctive brand of thrash
and hardcore. Masterminded by the Daves of Fireapple
Red, and fronted by Jamie Searle, previously of
the critically-acclaimed Adequate Seven, the band
also features past & present members of *shels,
Mahumodo, Devil Sold His Soul and Smoking Hearts
- March Of The Raptors could be described as a
UK underground supergroup.
After recording the drums with Jonny Renshaw of
Devil Sold His Soul, the band begged, stole &
borrowed to record & mix the rest of the album
themselves in bedrooms & basements around
London.
March Of The Raptors convey the underlying feeling
of inescapable horror and anxiety that often confront
us within our day to day lives, alongside intensely
passionate lyrics confronting political oppression
and unjust brutality in the name of religion.
This combines with rapid fire beats & savage
riffs for a heavy yet cathartic sound, interdispersed
with gang vocals and melodic interludes which
reinforce the message of despair at the world
around us but with a little hope thrown in for
good measure.
March Of The Raptors have so far shared the stage
with Devil Sold His Soul, Shaped By Fate, Hexes,
Me Vs Hero and Manatees, and will be touring in
2010 to support the release of their eponymously
titled mini-album. March 2010 is destined to be
the March of the Raptors.

65Daysofstatic
- Tour And New Album. |
 |
 |
Sunday 7thMarch
2010
65daysofstatic – the name still shrouded
in inspirational ambiguity, the band still one
of the most arresting live acts on the circuit
– arrive at album four reborn.
Following years of incessant touring, including
tours with The Cure, not only all over the UK
but worldwide. The ante had been upped. Those
audiences that had been building since the bands
conception simply exploded.
But then, silence. A pause. Stasis for the ‘static.
Rediscovery of music that passed them by before
– Daft Punk, house music, hedonism over
IDM headaches – and a prolonged period of
writing where new ideas could exert substantial
pressure on the old. September 2008 signalled
the beginning of the end for 65days as they were
– where interviewers would ask after the
pros and cons of being pigeonholed a post-rock
band – and the dawn of something wholly
unexpected, against type and beyond bold.
Audacious, disregarding of former glories, We
Were Exploding Anyway is 65days anew.
This is lean, sleek, polished. Arrangements are
taut, economical, with not a beat wasted. It’s
peaks upon peaks ‘til all that’s left
is a drop so massive that to dive is to confront
certain destruction. But to step off is too exciting
to deny: the fall, an embrace to last a lifetime.
We Were Exploding Anyway is a game-changer from
a band that has only ever followed its own rules,
and now they’re broken. Don’t pick
up the pieces. Leave them. Dance over them. This
time, and for all time, and those audiences…
Those audiences were exploding anyway.
We Were Exploding Anyway available on CD and digital
download on 26th April 2010 via HASSLE.

Jaguar
Love To Release Hologram Jams |
 |
 |
Wednesday 3rd
March 2010
Blood Brothers may have betrayed their blood oath
by breaking up, but the spirit of that raucous
Seattle act lives on in Jaguar Love. Despite being
mainly based in Seattle and Portland, the duo
basically live on the road and have played live
with the likes of Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the
Stone Age (Rob Pope of Spoon played based for
JAGUAR LOVE on a recent tour), TV on the Radio
and more.
‘Hologram Jams’ is the first Jaguar
Love album to feature the band’s stripped
down and rebuilt from the ground up two-piece
line up of Johnny Whitney (Vocals, keys, drum
machines) and Cody Votolato (Guitars, vocals,
drum machines), both formerly of the late, lamented
Blood Brothers. “Cody and I have always
had a strong bond, both creatively and as friends
- and working on this album together was the most
productive, free flow of ideas I have ever been
a part of,” said Whitney.
During their short career so far the band’s
inimitable sound has inspired the folks at Matador
Records, who signed one album and an EP, as well
as Fat Possum, who have now signed them to a worldwide
deal.
Sophomore full-length ‘Hologram Jams’
reunited Cody and Johnny with producer John Goodmanson
(Bikini Kill, Los Campesinos!, Death Cab For Cutie),
who also produced Blood Brothers’ 100,000+
selling ‘Crimes’ and co-produced the
subsequent ‘Young Machetes’ with Guy
Picciotto of Fugazi fame. Goodmanson co-produced
with Votolato and Whitney on this one too and
the resulting sound combines soulful howls colliding
with and coursing over relentless dance beats
and heavy glam guitars. Hologram Jams is bursting
with hooks.
Whilst there are no finalized plans for Jaguar
Love to stalk music-loving prey on the road over
here right now, the band promises “endless
amounts of touring” so watch this space.

Katatonia
Tour Dates. |
 |
 |
Wednesday
3rd March 2010
Following the release of their critically acclaimed
album “Night Is the New Day” in November
2009, Katatonia are set to tour the UK in 2010
and release an EP – “The Longest Year”.
Formed in 1991 by Anders Nyström and Jonas
Renkse, their debut album, ‘Dance of December
Souls’, was released in 1993, gaining the
band recognition for their eclectic brand of gothic
doom/death metal & joining acts such as Paradise
Lost & My Dying Bride to become one of the
genre’s defining bands. On future albums
a newer, sleeker Katatonia sound came to the fore,
starting with a streamlined & structured collection
of melodic dark rock songs that became the third
album ‘Discouraged Ones’; the main
evolution point for modern day Katatonia.
The band’s eighth album ‘Night Is
The New Day’ sees a band at the height of
their powers, a continuation of the heaviness,
depth & atmosphere of their previous album,
‘The Great Cold Distance’. ‘Night
Is the New Day’ is also a more multi-dimensional
effort - waltzing between prog moments, doom,
folk & the classic melodic anthems that are
staple to Katatonia’s uncompromising sound.
Katatonia are completed by the haunting tones
of Jonas Renkse’s journeys of urban &
emotional decay, & now joined by Frank Default
on keyboards, notable for his work on the track
‘Unfurl’ from the ‘July’
EP - utilising his expertise to the fullest to
texture the soundscapes.
The album was recorded throughout July 2009 &
was co-produced, engineered and mixed by David
Castillo (Opeth, InMe). Recording was divided
between Studio Mega (for drums) and Ghost Ward
Studios, where most recording took place; this
provided a dose of inspiration from the darker
corners of life with its choice of location. Mastering
was completed at Fascination Street Studios (where
‘The Great Cold Distance’ was recorded)
with Jens Bogren (Opeth, Amon Amarth and Paradise
Lost)
“The Longest Year” EP will feature
the album track of the same name in addition to
three previously unavailable songs – new
track “Sold Heart” and two remixes
of album songs – “Day & Then The
Shade” (Frank Default Remix) and “Idle
Blood” (Linje 14) – and two videos
(“The Day & the Shade” and “The
Longest Year”).
Consummate live performers, Katatonia have just
supported Paradise Lost across the UK and performed
at the Hellfire festival. The bands have announced
a series of headline UK gigs across the UK in
March 2010 in addition to performing at Hammerfest
II. Full dates are as follows -
Tues 9th March Manchester – Academy 3
Wed 10th March Nottingham – Basement
Thu 11th March London – Garage
Fri 12th March Hammerfest II – Prestatyn
Sat 13th March Cardiff – Barfly
Sun 14th March Wolverhampton – Little Civic

Wednesday
3rd March 2010
With a line up already boasting IRON MAIDEN, RAMMSTEIN,
MÖTLEY CRÜE and SLAYER amongst others,
SONISPHERE KNEBWORTH has announced another seven
fantastic acts, showcasing the diversity and range
of music it has to offer.
A welcome addition to the SONISPHERE line up,
in their seven years FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND have
chalked up some amazing statistics: the band have
sold considerably more than a million records;
all four of their albums have gone into the UK
Top 20; they have three Gold records; have graced
countless magazine covers, been the subject of
broadsheet profiles and tabloid features; their
tours sell out the nation’s larger venues
in a matter of minutes; worldwide – from
America to Russia, Singapore to Australia, Japan
and beyond – they have a following more
loyal than bands considered their equal. And,
most importantly, they rock.
Making their SONISPHERE debut this year are British
Rockers FIGHTSTAR. 2009 was a hugely successful
year for the London four-piece - a top 20 album
with their third and most successful record, “be
human”; two sold out headline tours which
included Shepherds Bush Empire in November; an
appearance at T4 on the Beach, Radio 1’s
Big Weekend and the iTunes festival as well as
having 4 singles playlisted at Radio 1. Their
MySpace site has racked up 2.2 million profile
views and the band drew huge crowds at the Download
and Reading and Leeds festivals. All this leaves
FIGHSTAR more than qualified to deliver a memorable
set at KNEBWORTH and one you won’t want
to miss. Says frontman CHARLIE SIMPSON:
“Playing Sonisphere at the legendary Knebworth
ground is going to be incredible! This festival
has come out of nowhere to compete with the likes
of Download and Reading/Leeds, so it will be an
absolute must for any rock fan this summer. There
are so many great bands playing over the three
days and we are honoured to be part of the line-up.”
In the eight years between 2001 - 2009, SKUNK
ANANSIE left a gaping hole in the UK rock scene,
so we’re delighted that these recently reformed
rockers will be joining the SONISPHERE 2010 KNEBWORTH
line up. The multi-platinum selling act came crashing
onto an unsuspecting rock scene back in 1994 with
what lead singer Skin labelled “Clit-Rock”
- described as an amalgam of heavy metal and black
feminist rage. They went on to conquer the world
with their unique style, with their impressive
live show securing nominations at various awards
ceremonies. Now, the attendees of SONISPHERE KNEBWORTH
get to see why, as the band deliver hits such
as “Weak”, “Charity” and
“All I Want”.
Unless you’ve had your head buried in the
sand for the last three years, GALLOWS is a name
synonymous with attitude, aggression and hardcore
punk rock. Since 2007, the fearless FRANK CARTER
and co have punished music fans the world over
with their refreshingly real take on punk, earning
a reputation as one of the most formidable live
acts on the scene. Like the demented grandchildren
of SONISPHERE stage sharers IGGY & THE STOOGES,
GALLOWS promise to bring an element of danger
to the weekend’s proceedings, as they spit
out tracks like “Abandon Ship”, In
The Belly Of A Shark” and Top 40 single
“Staring At The Rude Bois”.
Flying in from Chicago, MADINA LAKE bring their
catchy blend of pop-punk and alt-rock to the SONISPHERE
stage. Since their first outing here, the band’s
rise in the UK has been nothing short of spectacular.
First hitting the UK in support of Paramore in
late 2006, the band found themselves selling out
the very same venues they were opening at mere
months later, and the success story snowballed
from there. Gracing numerous magazine covers,
securing BEST INTERNATIONAL NEWCOMER at the 2007
Kerrang! Awards and subsequently appearing on
the 2008 Kerrang! Tour, by the time 2009’s
“Attic’s To Eden” was released,
MADINA mania was unstoppable, and shows no sign
of stopping as they make their way to SONISPHERE
2010 - apparently a lifelong dream for bassplayer
MATTHEW LEONE:
"Meeting the cast of "Revenge of the
Nerds", and playing Sonisphere are the last
two things on my bucket list. Come August 2nd,
I'll be that much closer to calling it a life
with no regrets."
Family Force 5 is one of the great success stories
of artist development in contemporary music today.
Their debut CD has quietly scanned 125,000 + copies
and their live show has been seen by tens of thousands,
earning them a reputation as one of the hardest
working band's in America, with a performance
that is second to none. You may have heard Fearne
Cotton giving UK debut single Dance or Die a spin
or two, or maybe you caught these guys tearing
it up across the UK in February with Cobra Starship.
FAMILY FORCE 5 returns to the UK for their first
ever UK festival performance at SONISPHERE KNEBWORTH;
Expect hip shaking, move making, sing-a-long dance
rock a plenty! In the words of Keytarist/Vocalist
Naddady "we're at war. Dancing is our weapon,
and our party is ready to pull the trigger."
Formed initially as a tribute to last year’s
SONISPHERE headliners METALLICA in 1993, APOCALYPTICA
have become leading force in their own right.
Armed with three cellos and a metal-as-hell drummer,
APOCALYPTICA have become a firm festival favourite,
as they offer alternative takes on bands such
as METALLICA, SEPULTURA and PANTERA, as well as
their own material. Don’t let the presence
of classical instruments fool you - these Finns
play hard and heavy, and will have no problem
working up a frenzy amongst those in attendance.
Look out for a very exciting announcement with
more bands next week, and many more acts to be
announced in the coming weeks and months.

Cathedral
Announce UK Tour. |
 |
 |
Wednesday 3rd
March 2010
To celebrate the release of their latest album
‘The Guessing Game’ Cathedral have
announced 6 live shows in late April / early May
2010. Taking in England, Scotland and both Southern
and Northern Ireland these dates will represent
the bands first headlining tour since the Doomed
Trinity package of 2006.
Keeping in the Cathedral tradition of delivering
the best possible touring package they can, the
band are proud to announce the addition of Tokyo’s
heaviest sons of Sabbath Church of Misery and
the Orthodox Doom meets True Metal powerhouse
that is Indianapolis's The Gates of Slumber.
‘The Guessing Game’ a Double Album
which stands as Cathedral’s 9th full length
release will hit the shops on April 29th 2010.
Again, produced by Warren Riker (Down, Crowbar,
The Fugees) and recorded at Chapel Studios in
Lincolnshire ‘The Guessing Game’ marks
perhaps the most dizzyingly eclectic, eccentric
and fascinating album they’ve yet committed
to posterity. Cathedral’s frame of reference
has always been a unique one, yet here their curious
and captivating sound takes on new dimensions,
fuelled in equal parts by a fiercely anti-establishment
imperative borne from punk rock origins, and a
skyward reach gleaned from a longstanding devotion
to the most outré and rewarding realms
of progressive rock, folk and psychedelia. A 78-minute,
13-track double-disc set magnum opus, ‘The
Guessing Game’ fuses the expansive ambition
of the most ornate gatefold double-album with
Cathedral’s trademark marriage of incandescent
ire and monstrous riffage.

The
Chemists To Support Fun Loving Criminals |
 |
 |
Wednesday 3rd
March 2010
The Chemists release their new single ‘This
City’ on March 29th through Distiller Records.
The single includes remixes by renowned DJ Adam
Freeland, Losers, B-List and a remix of the bands
previous single ‘Milk and Honey’ by
bootleg supremo Dave Remix. The lead track was
mixed by Adrian Bushby (Muse /Doves / Foo Fighters).
The single is taken from their debut album ‘The
Theories of Dr. Lovelock’, which was released
at the end of last year, receiving much acclaim.
The accompanying video has a dark sci-fi feel,
featuring the much revered British actor Richard
E Grant playing a half-man, half-robot character
attempting to unplug itself from the main power
source. The song details what happens when drugs
and drink meet jet lag and hookers in Hong Kong,
as experienced by vocalist Johnny Benn first-hand.
Their musical influences include the Queens of
the Stone Age, The Pixies, The Police and Doves.
The Chemists have toured with Feeder, Boxer Rebellion,
and White Belt Yellow Tag, amongst others. The
band rounded off last year as special guests of
fellow Brit-Rockers Skunk Anansie on their European
tour, where they received much praise from audiences
across Europe.
The Chemists are Johnny Benn (Vocals), Sam James
(Lead Guitar), Wayne Jones (Bass), Dave Betts
(Rhythm Guitar) and Matt Albon (Drums.)

200
Trees Festival |
 |
 |
Wednesday 3rd
March 2010
Post-grunge punk rockers The Subways will headline
the Saturday night at this summer’s 2000trees
festival, organisers can now reveal.
Last year the British trio were the main support
for AC/DC’s stadium shows at Wembley Stadium
and Glasgow’s Hampden Park. Before that
they turned two years on the road touring with
the likes of Foo Fighters and Oasis, and a potentially
career-ending throat ailment, into their edgier
second album All Or Nothing.
The Subways join folk-punk hero Frank Turner whose
headline performance on the Friday night will
be a monumental and fun-filled show from one of
the nation’s most electrifying performers
as well a main stage set from Sheffield’s
finest experimental rock outfit 65daysofstatic.
Playing just before Frank on the Main Stage is
Metronomy – sublime electronic pop band
who have risen to success over the past year with
second album ‘Nights Out’ as well
as remixing the big names of the UK music scene
including Roots Manuva, Franz Ferdinand, Klaxons,
Goldfrapp, Zero 7, Ladytron and Kate Nash. And
joining The Subways on the Main Stage on Saturday
are Bombay Bicycle Club - brimming with youthful
urgency, honesty and romance with chiming chords
and sighed melodies that blaze proudly like flushed
cheeks on a cold day. Also confirmed for the weekend
are local (GLOS) heroes Jim Lockey & The Solemn
Sun, whose songs of downbeat redemption are bound
to resonate with the disillusioned and the hopeful;
the deft wit and underlying intellect of one of
the UK’s premiere performers, Chris T-T;
Hampshire seven-piece The Dawn Chorus who deal
in thundering rhythms and folk blitz; expansive,
organic indie with echoing, piercing guitars and
insistent piano from Roundstone; subtly infectious,
folk-sewn stories from Adam Kilip’s The
Tailors; charming yet occasionally vitriolic stummer
Ben Marwood and musical storyteller and 2000trees
house folky Dan Heaver.
Completing the latest line-up confirmations are
Scottish three-piece The Xcerts who will be premiering
tracks from their second album currently being
recorded with Brand New producer Mike Sapone in
New York; country rock punkers Crazy Arm who got
the festival started last year on the Thursday
night; instrumental electronic outfit Maybshewill;
the dance/electro/dub/rock mash up of Old School
Tie and Bath’s banjo wielding Americano
blues rock act, Kill It Kid. With two full days
featuring over 50 acts on three stages, comedy,
DJs, headphone disco and campfire sing-a-longs
to keep the party spirit going till dawn, 2010
is shaping up to be the best year yet for 2000trees
– with an extra day of music and fun for

ABOUT THE FESIVAL Promoting the finest homegrown
talent emerging from the vibrant British music
scene, 2000trees is the perfect place to unearth
tomorrow’s stars today. With an eclectic
line-up spanning many musical genres, this intimate
and friendly festival has become a haven for music
fans - many of whom discover their new favourite
bands at the event.
In its short history 2000trees has established
itself as one of the leading small festivals in
the British summer calendar. Created by a group
of friends in 2007, the festival was born out
of frustration with the ever increasing corporate
sponsorship and mass advertising nature of the
larger traditional British festivals.
Disillusioned by extortionate ticket prices with
over priced food and drink, this band of festival
veterans vowed to take matters into their own
hands and in true punk rock style set about developing
the perfect antidote.Over the past three years
the festival has witnessed some incredible live
performances, from The King Blues, who had practically
the entire field dancing and singing in the rain
at last year’s sold out event, with Fightstar
and British Sea Power delivering crowning headline
sets.
The previous years have seen unforgettable performances
from Eighties Matchbox B-line Disaster, Art Brut,
Slow Club, Future Of The Left, Beans On Toast,
The Duke Spirit, The Ghost of a Thousand, Danananaykroyd,
These New Puritans, Red Light Company and Wild
Beasts to name just a few. Tickets are on sale
now. More information is available from

The
King blues Pull Out Of Slam Dunk Festival 2010. |
 |
 |
Thursday 25th
February 2010
We are sorry to announce The King Blues have been
forced to pull out of Slam Dunk Festival 2010,
due to the birth of frontman Itch’s baby.
The due date of the baby is now the weekend of
the festival. Below is a message from the father-to-be.
“Hi all. We're very, very sorry to announce
that we have had to pull out of this year's Slam
Dunk Festival. It's not a decision we take lightly
but there was genuinely nothing we could do about
it. We had an amazing time last year, with some
killer bands and a great atmosphere of fantastic
kids and we're gutted we won't get to see this
festival evolve into the 2 day mashup it has now
become. Sorry to anyone who was planning on watching
us and to all involved. Love, The King Blues."
A replacement for the band will be announced
shortly, along with a host of new additions to
the lineup, joining the already impressive company
of New Found Glory, Four Year Strong, Capdown,
Set Your Goals, RX Bandits, The Rocket Summer,
Fireworks, Breathe Carolina, Out Of Sight and
Every Avenue.

February 2010
Legendary British thrashers ONSLAUGHT have confirmed
that their first ever UK festival appearance will
take place at the 10th anniversary BLOODSTOCK
OPEN AIR. After forming in 1983, ONSLAUGHT burst
onto the burgeoning Thrash Metal scene, releasing
3 albums before disbanding in 1990 - but not before
securing their place as one of the forefathers
of British Thrash. Reforming in 2005 after seeing
a huge resurgence of interest on the reissuing
of their back catalogue, the band returned with
a new album in 2007, rapturously received across
the metal world.
Now, as they prepare for album number five, the
band will take time out for their only UK show
of the year. States founding member and drummer
Steve Grice:
“We are very excited and to be playing Bloodstock
2010. Not only will it be the ONLY UK show Onslaught
play this year, but the very first outdoor show
we have played in the UK. We look forward to bringing
some real Flesh Melting -Thrash Metal to the Guys
and Gals of BLOODSTOCK. See you all there!”
Joining them will be METAL 2 THE MASSES winners
SNAKEBITE. The four piece heavy metal band from
South-East London won over BLOODSTOCK’s
M2TM judges with their heart-stopping cocktail
of classic rock groove, hell-for-leather thrash
and a seemingly endless torrent of gargantuan
riffs, earning them a slot on the bill of this
prestigious festival.
“Metal 2 The Masses has been the ultimate
experience for us” says the band. “To
be sitting here now, knowing that we're set to
play the Wacken alongside having played (and about
to play AGAIN) the only true Metal Festival in
England just doesn’t feel real! We appreciate
this opportunity loads, and want to work our balls
off to make the effects of all this last, as this
is the easily the best chance an unsigned band
could ever be given.....”
The BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR METAL FESTIVAL 2010 will
take place at Catton Hall, Derbyshire from 13th
– 15th August

Youthmovies
Set To say Goodbye With Final UK Tour. |
 |
 |
Thursday 25th
February 2010
Youthmovies are bowing their heads with a final
UK tour in late March.
They proved themselves as one of the UK’s
most interesting and musically diverse independent
bands, with a dynamic and passionate delivery
which led to critics calling them “Unclassifiable”
(Q Magazine), "indefinable and incomparable"
(Rock Sound) and "Weird, but fucking wonderful"
(The Fly) to list but a few. But as happens all
to often, it’s those with the most heart
that sometimes step aside.
Lead singer Andrew Mears had this to say: “There's
a part of me that would love this to be an amputated,
acerbic mess of a break-up, for the romance of
it, but we're still friends, still love to play
and there's no attitude about any of this; we're
all at good points in our lives, just very different
ones. Life has spread us out over the country
now and it's become a logistical nightmare to
get our shit together. I think there was a good
chance that had we made the next record, our distance
would have had a bad affect on the music. We've
always been close and it's the only way we know
how to work with one and other. So, not wanting
to tar what we've done in the past, we're calling
it a day and looking to the future...”
Youthmovies will be performing in five cities,
visiting some of their more treasured places with
good friend Adam Gnade in support on all shows.
Tue 23 March - Edinburgh Sneaky Pete's /Doors
7.00pm/18+
Wed 24 March - Manchester Deaf Institute/ Doors
7.30pm/14+
Thu 25 March - Leeds Brudenell Social Club/ Doors
7.30pm/14+
Fri 26 March - London Borderline/ Doors 7.30pm/14+
(under 16's must be accompanied)
Sat 27 March - Oxford O2 Academy/ Doors 6.30pm/All
ages (under 14's must be accompanied)
Tickets £7 regionally and £8.50 London.
Available from all regular outlets.
Every member of the band will be continuing with
many creative projects within the arts whether
it be production, literature, music or something
else. This will not be the last you’ll see.
Thankfully.

Heavens
Basement In Search Of New Singer. |
 |
 |
Thursday 25th
February 2010
Heaven’s Basement have prepared this statement
on the departure of former frontman Richie Heavennz:
“Hi guys, writing stuff like this is never
easy so we'll just come right out with it.
Unfortunately, Richie has decided to leave Heaven's
Basement. This will probably come as a surprise
to most of you (as it did us) but to be honest
we've seen signs in Richie over the last few months
that suggested there was something wrong. He first
told us about how he felt when we regrouped for
some writing sessions in the studio last month.
Richie was upfront with us all about his doubts
in continuing. He feels he can no longer keep
up with everything that goes along with being
part of Heaven's Basement. He's written a message
for you all, so here it is.
"After 18 months of amazing highs and amazing
experiences, I feel that the lifestyle and constant
touring has taken its toll and its time for me
to move on to different pastures! In short guys,
I'm afraid I will be stepping down as the lead
singer of Heaven's Basement.
I want to thank everyone who has supported me
through this amazing time in my life. I also want
to thank my brothers in HB for their understanding
and friendship! I would like to thank all the
fans of Heavens Basement for all their love and
support over the last 2 years! You've all made
my life a brighter place!
I wish the guys all the luck in the world for
their future.
Love ya!!"
It goes without saying that we'll miss him, Richie
will always be an important part of the band's
history as one of the founding members. It's not
even two years yet since the first Heaven's Basement
show but during that time we've had some amazing
times together which we'll never forget. We've
all become great friends over the past few years
and he was a very important part of what makes
the band chemistry work. We wish him all the best
for the future, we're sure he will go on to do
well in what ever path he chooses.
I guess you will all be wondering about what we're
going to do about the upcoming tour dates we have.
While we initially thought that Richie would come
out and play these tours with us until we found
ourselves a new frontman, that's not going to
be the case anymore. As you know, we're not the
kind of guys to let a small thing like not having
a singer get in the way, so we're happy to say
that they will all be going ahead as planned!
Us guys thrive of being on the road, it's what
HB is about. We pride ourselves on being a live
band. We've been through our fair share of sticky
situations in the past and always managed to pull
through, obviously losing your singer a couple
of weeks before a two month tour is a new thing
for us but if there's a way to make it work, we'll
find that way. We're lucky to have met and played
alongside some great musicians over the past few
years which have fused some great friendships,
this has led to our saviour for these dates, our
good friend Johnny Fallen. Johnny's been working
hard with us for the past few days on our set,
he's doing a great job at learning the stuff at
such sort notice. Learning an hour long headline
set in a week is no easy task! Lucky for us his
own band theFALLEN have a break in their schedule
so he's able to stand in for us on the upcoming
dates. Massive thanks to all the guys in his band....we're
very grateful for this and we owe ya's one!!
Johnny’s really excited about coming out
on tour. We've told him all good stuff about you
guys and we know you will all give him a warm
welcome when he takes to the stage with us!
Aside from all this, the search is now on for
our future full time singer. Obviously we're keen
to get someone in as soon as we can, as we already
have a lot more tours and festivals booked and
this year will be our busiest yet. We're lining
up auditions as soon as we return from the Theory
Of A Deadman tour. Anyone interested should email
us at info@heavensbasement.com <mailto:singers@heavensbasement.com>
with the subject title "singer", some
samples of them singing (either a myspace link
or attachment), photos and a bio that covers basic
info such as age, location etc..
So, as clichéd as it is, a new chapter
begins in our history, one thing you all should
know is that us four guys are as fired up as ever,
we know people naturally become concerned whenever
a band loses a member but we're not going anywhere!
We're so glad that we're able to keep on the road
despite this situation and we have no doubt that
we'll look back on this in the future as another
obstacle that we turned into a positive!
Anyway, its time for us to get back in the rehearsal
room with Johnny! We hope you lot have all got
our lyrics down to give him a hand over the coming
weeks if he needs it! ;)
We'll see you on tour
Jonny, Sid, Chris, Rob”

High
Voltage Gets Bigger. |
 |
 |
Thursday 25th
February 2010
High Voltage is the must-see rock event of 2010
– a two-day festival featuring the very
best in classic rock, progressive rock and metal.
Custom built by rock fans, for rock fans.
Topping the bill are the legendary Emerson, Lake
& Palmer and ZZ Top.
The latest additions add to an already stellar
lineup that will run across two days and three
stages – Main Stage, Prog Stage and Metal
Stage.
Transatlantic (Prog Stage) – A rare performance
from the prog rock supergroup made up of Roine
Stolt (The Flower Kings), Pete Trewavas (Marillion),
Neal Morse (ex-Spock’s Beard) and Mike Portnoy
(Dream Theater). The band released their latest
album “The Whirlwind” in late 2009
to widespread critical acclaim.
Venom (Metal Stage) - Venom are the legendary
British metal band whose seminal 1982 album Black
Metal spawned an entire genre. Acknowledged as
a major influence by Metallica, Slayer and countless
extreme metal bands, Venom are still led by iconic
frontman Cronos, who was a guest star on Dave
Grohl’s Probot album.
UFO (Main Stage) - One of the all-time great hard
rock bands. In the ‘70s they released a
series of classic albums including Phenomenon,
Force It, Lights Out, Obsession and the definitive
live double album Strangers In The Night. Now
featuring guitar virtuoso Vinnie Moore alongside
vocalist Phil Mogg, bassist Pete Way, drummer
Andy Parker and guitarist/keyboard player Paul
Raymond, UFO celebrated their 40th anniversary
in 2009.
The Quireboys (Main Stage) - The Quireboys are,
in their own words, “purveyors of the finest
English good time rock ‘n’ roll since
1984” – a band in the tradition of
The Rolling Stones and the Faces. And 20 years
after their debut album A Bit Of What You Fancy
hit number two on the UK chart, the Quireboys’
current album Halfpenny Dancer proves they’re
still one of Britain’s great rock ‘n’
roll bands.
The Union (Main Stage) – The Union is a
new band formed by Luke Morley, formerly the guitarist
for legendary UK rock band Thunder and ex Winterville
vocalist/guitarist Peter Shoulder. The band are
currently somewhere deep in the English countryside
devoting themselves to the songwriting process
and expect to emerge later in the year to perform
their debut shows. The album promises to be an
inspired mix of blues infused rock featuring the
stunning and unique vocals of Peter Shoulder.
Dweezil Zappa Plays Zappa (Prog Stage) –
Dweezil Zappa and band play a greatest hits set
of the music from his father, the maverick rock
legend Frank Zappa. The band returns to the UK
for the first time since a sellout tour in 2008.
Confirmed lineup to date is as follows…
Main stage – Emerson, Lake & Palmer,
ZZ Top, Foreigner, Heaven & Hell, Bachman
Turner, Joe Bonamassa, Gary Moore, UFO, The Answer,
The Quireboys, The Union…
Prog Stage – Transatlantic, Asia, Zappa
Plays Zappa, Marillion, Argent, Steve Hackett,
Focus, Pendragon, Uriah Heep, Magnum, Martin Turner’s
Wishbone Ash, The Reasoning, Touchstone…
Metal Stage – Black Label Society, Down,
Venom, Clutch…
High Voltage is the festival all true rock fans
have been waiting for – custom built by
rock fans for rock fans. The High Voltage team
has been to every rock festival imaginable –
taking what they have learned to build a festival
unlike any other.
First of all there’s the music: two amazing
headliners AND three unique stages specially curated
to cater for different sides of the rock audience,
and a brilliant supporting cast playing special
must-see sets. Then there’s the festival
itself. The facilities will be second to none:
great food, proper beer, clean toilets, deluxe
hospitality packages, designated hotels, free
shuttle transport. This is somewhere you take
the whole family.
High Voltage offers a new and unique festival
experience for rock fans of all ages. Only High
Voltage gives ticket buyers the freedom to design
their own bespoke festival package – which
can include accommodation, transport, parking
and VIP bar access. Early bird ticket purchasers

Welcome
To The Swellers. |
 |
 |
Thursday 25th
February 2010
Introducing The Swellers who are set to release
‘Ups and Downsizing’ on April 12 via
Fueled By Ramen Records, the album is preceded
by the single ‘Fire Away’ out on April
5. The Flint, Michigan-based band have also announced
their first ever UK shows - the band are confirmed
for the Give It A Name Introduces Tour which kicks
off on April 26 in Oxford and includes a date
at London’s Kings College on May 6, they
will also be playing a string of their own headline
shows.
Out late last year in the US ‘Ups and Downsizing’,
was recently named one of the best albums of 2009
by both Absolute Punk and Punk News. “The
Swellers have topped their Everest and written
an album that might just be the perfect balance
of melodic & pop punk since [Green Day’s]
Dookie,” gushed Absolute Punk, while Punk
News raved it’s “without a doubt,
the best thing FBR has released since the days
when the Stereo, Jimmy Eat World and the Impossibles
dominated the label’s landscape.”
In addition, Alternative press awarded the album
4.5 out of five stating “The only question
you’ll have, even after just one listen,
is why on earth aren’t this band already
huge. It’s just that good.”
Brothers Nick and Jonathan Diener started The
Swellers as a trio in 2002. The group molded its
sound—a cross between classic punk and ’90s
rock—at the Vehicle City’s local music
incubator, the legendary Flint Local 432, an all-ages,
volunteer-supported club. After cutting their
teeth at “The Local” for a few years,
the band hit the road to support their first release,
a 2005 EP entitled “Beginning of The End
Again”. In 2007, the band released the critically
acclaimed “My Everest,” their first
full-length album. To record “Ups and Downsizing,”
the Diener brothers were joined by new band members
Ryan Collins and Anto Boros, solidifying the band’s
current line-up.
In true punk tradition, ‘Ups and Downsizing’
is the outraged cry of a band that has seen its
world on the precipice. The album’s title
song, and much of the album, was inspired by what
had been happening in Michigan long before the
recession hit elsewhere—dwindling jobs,
people moving out of state, a bleak future—and
how it hit the Diener brothers at home.
Like so many of their fellow Fueled By Ramen artists,
The Swellers have proven themselves to be an aggressive
and hard-working live act. The band have been
on the road nearly non-stop over the last three
years, playing with the likes of Paramore, H2O,
Motion City Soundtrack and Less Than Jake along
the way, and gaining an army of fans and support
from other bands with their reactive music and
tireless work ethic.
Be sure to catch the band when they hit the UK
for the Give It A Name Introduces tour and their
own headline dates, full info below:

Greece
Sonisphere Get The Big Four. |
 |
 |
Thursday 18th
February 2010
All the Greek sites, blogs and forums have been
flooded for the last months by rumours about the
possible appearance of “BIG FOUR”.
Now Didi Music / Big Star Promotion can officially
confirm that on Thursday, 24th June 2010 at Terra
Vibe Park, with the addition of SONISPHERE GREECE.
For the first time in Greece, Sonisphere Festival
will present a line up, which will be unforgettable.
“BIG FOUR” - METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH
and ANTHRAX - will play alongside Stone Sour,
Mastodon and Bullet For My Valentine, in a move
that will have even the most demanding audience
frenzied with excitement.
Says LARS ULRICH/METALLICA of this BIG FOUR announcement:
"Who would have thought that more than 25
years after its inception, thrash metal's big
4 would not only still be around and more popular
than ever, but will now play together for the
first time...what a mindfuck! Bring it on!"
“It's about fucking time this happened,”
said SLAYER’s KERRY KING. “and about
time the fans finally get what they want. This
is fucking awesome.”
ANTHRAX guitarist, SCOTT IAN agrees, commenting
on the enormity of the announcement.
“People have been talking about these four
bands playing together since 1984. That's twenty-six
years of expectation!!! And the thing is, I believe
not only will we live up to the expectations,
we will shatter them!! No other four bands as
influential as the four of us have ever done this.
Imagine if The Beatles, Stones, The Who and Zeppelin
had done shows? Or Sabbath, Priest, Maiden, Motorhead?
Well, I may be getting into some rarified air
here but as a fan, that's how big I feel this
is.”
These four legendary acts broke out of the underground
thrash movement to dominate the metal world in
the 1980s, selling millions of records and packing
arenas across the globe. The metal giants have
never before all shared the same stage, despite
huge demand. But on 24th June 2010, METALLICA,
SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX will take to the
Terra Vibe Park stage, to make the dreams of headbangers
of Greece become a reality.
“This is a “once-in-a-lifetime”
opportunity for Heavy Metal “Fans”
to see the four greatest Heavy Metal “Bands”
in American History back together on one stage”
concludes MEGADETH mainman DAVE MUSTAINE. “If
there are any heads left at the end of this Festival
that haven’t banged, they don’t belong
there.”
Having established itself as the “Best New
Festival” at the 2009 UK Festival Awards,
SONISPHERE FESTIVAL moves forward proudly with
the announcement of their line up in Greece in
2010.
Last year’s SONISPHERE saw 300,000 music
fans attend six festivals across the continent,
taking in The Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Sweden,
Finland, and the UK. Boasting a line-up covering
a truly broad spectrum of the rock scene, headliners
Metallica led a diverse collection of acts from
country to country including Slipknot, Lamb Of
God, Anthrax, Linkin Park, The Prodigy, The Hives
and many more, to make the inaugural tour a huge
success.
In 2010 SONISPHERE expands to Greece and to ten
more countries.
With an extremely impressive line up, this groundbreaking
travelling rock circus is set to be an even bigger
success, as it solidifies its position as the
world’s leading rock festival series.

May 2010 bank holiday weekend sees the annual
return of SLAM DUNK FESTIVAL, one of the most
exciting and popular new festivals in the UK.
This year however, it’s gotten even bigger
and better. With the major success of the last
4 years, this year the festival takes the giant
step of doubling in size. Because of its popularity,
the Leeds site and format remains unchanged, though
the festival grows with the addition of another
site, this time in London, the day before.
After much research, a suitable site for the London
date has been found at the Hatfield Campus of
The Univesity Of Hertfordshire. This is just north
of London, with a 21 minute direct train from
Kings Cross, and being on a junction of the A1,
it has excellent transport routes. The site allows
the same capacity and format as Leeds, so the
festival now has the capacity of 10,000 people
over the 2 days. The same bands will play both
days, which are:
Saturday 29th May: ‘Slam Dunk Festival South’,
University of Hertfordshire
7 stages, 5000 capacity
Sunday 30th May: ‘Slam Dunk Festival North’,
Leeds University
7 stages, 5000 capacity
Over 40 bands will play both days
Festival Promoter Ben Ray says "I am extremly
pleased that the success of previous years has
allowed me to launch Slam Dunk South which allows
even more people to get the chance to see so many
quality bands. I think people enjoy the fact that
it isn’t just one or two big stages and
instead people can move freely between 7 stages,
all with music they like, and see everyone from
large international bands to great new UK talent.
I really think I owe a lot to the small upcoming
UK bands!"<
The list of previous bands includes Paramore,
Fall Out Boy, Thursday, The Academy Is, Kids in
Glass Houses, Hundred Reasons, Boys like Girls,
The Blackout, Twin Atlantic, The Ghost of a Thousand,
Devil sold his Soul, Attack! Attack!, Zebrahead,
Sonic Boom Six, Fightstar and many more.

February 2010
Atlantic recording group Circa Survive has announced
the upcoming release of their major label debut,
“BLUE SKY NOISE.” Produced by three-time
Grammy winner David Bottrill (Tool, Muse, King
Crimson) and mixed by Rich Costey (Interpol, The
Mars Volta, Rage Against The Machine), the highly
anticipated collection arrives in stores and at
online retailers on April 20th.
To give fans an early taste of what they can expect
on the forthcoming album, the Doylestown, PA-based
quintet has posted the album track, “Get
Out” on their official website, www.CircaSurvive.com.

Circa Survive has emerged one of the most visionary
and forward-thinking young bands in contemporary
rock music today. Founded in 2004, Circa Survive
unleashed its acclaimed debut, “JUTURNA,”
the following year via Equal Vision Records. The
album – coupled with the band’s relentless
touring – saw the birth of a fervent fan
following, one which would catapult 2007’s
sophomore release, “ON LETTING GO,”
to a top 30 chart debut on the Billboard 200.
A remarkably volatile live act, Circa Survive
has headlined numerous sold out tours while also
sharing stages with an array of like-minded artists,
including My Chemical Romance, Coheed & Cambria,
The Gaslight Anthem, Pelican, Rise Against, and
countless others. The band has additionally performed
at a wide range of festivals including multiple
appearances at The Bamboozle and on Vans Warped
Tour. What’s more, Circa Survive was among
the most well-received acts at the 2007 Coachella
Valley Music & Arts Festival, prompting Spin
to praise frontman Anthony Green’s “crystalline,
soprano vocals” which “whip out above
the fracas, weaving in and out between Circa’s
dueling guitars.”
Circa Survive is: Nick Beard (bass), Steve Clifford
(drum), Brendan Ekstrom (guitar), Colin Frangicetto
(guitar), Anthony Green (vocals).

Check
Out Those Sweet Apples. |
 |
 |
Wednesday 17th
February 2010
Most bands are brought together by guitars, amps
and drums. Sweet Apple formed after tragedy, out
of friendship, on a miserable day in Vermont.
At first glance, the rock ‘n’ roll
quartet might seem like one of those "indie-rock
supergroup" sideshows. Yes, J. Mascis (drums/guitar/vocals)
plays in Dinosaur Jr. Tim Parnin (guitar) and
John Petkovic (vocals/guitar) play in Cobra Verde.
Dave Sweetapple (bass/vocals) plays in Witch.
But Sweet Apple was born of a death -- and a cross
country drive. Totally by chance.
It was rainy morning in December when John Petkovic
got in his car heading eastward. He had no destination
in mind, let alone plans for a band. He just wanted
to drive away.
"My mother had just died after a long, horrible
illness," he says. "And I’d been
totally devastated by so many things, all at once.
I’d lost so much weight. I couldn’t
eat or sleep. All I did was smoke cigarettes,
one after another after another."
John got in his car and went for a long smoke.
Four hundred miles from his hometown of Cleveland,
and out of the blue, he received a phone call
from friend Dave Sweetapple.
"I couldn’t believe he was driving
around aimlessly," says Sweetapple, of Brattleboro,
Vt. "When I found out he was so close to
Vermont I told him to come over."
Dave also called their mutual friend J. Mascis,
who lives nearby in Amherst, Ma., and told him
to come over. J did, and told John to start writing
a bunch of songs when he got back home –
so they could start a band. John hadn’t
played guitar for months. He came up with four
songs on the ride home – including "I
Can’t See You," with its haunting refrain,
"I drove and drove and drove and drove. And
drove and drove and drove and drove."
Within three weeks, John was jamming with CV bandmate
Tim Parnin – and they whittled 25 songs
down to 12.
"Out of the blue, we had an album full of
catchy tunes," says Parnin. "It’s
one of the weirdest things I’ve experienced
playing in bands."
Even weirder, many of the songs are upbeat –
fun and mockingly funny, with loud, brash guitars.
"Do You Remember" is a driving anthem.
"I’ve Got a Feeling That Won’t
Change" is wounded pop. "Flying Up a
Mountain" is a nihilist singalong.
"Love and Desperation" was recorded
in Cleveland and Massachusetts. It was mixed by
John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth, The Hold
Steady) and Don Depew (Guided By Voices, Cobra
Verde).
"I tell people that I saved John’s
life by starting this band," says Mascis.
"But they don’t believe me."
Sweet Apple is:
J. Mascis – Guitar god in Dinosaur Jr.;
drummer in Witch. Played with Cobra Verde for
a spell. Owns hundreds of guitar pedals and dozens
of Adidas. Favorite color is purple. Worked in
a coffee shop in India, even though he doesn’t
drink coffee. Spends a lot of money at Whole Foods.
Tim Parnin – Guitarist in Cobra Verde. Plays
guitar with former Faith No More singer Chuck
Mosely. Former clothing designer. Cleveland Cavaliers
season ticket holder. Partied with Shaq.
John Petkovic – Frontman for Cobra Verde.
Still gets acting residuals from "The OC."
Former aid to the Crown Prince of Yugoslavia.
Ex-guitarist in Guided by Voices. Writes about
bars and movies for Cleveland’s daily newspaper.
Working on underwear-themed art show. Smokes less,
eats more gummy bears.
Dave Sweetapple – Bassist in Witch. Native
of Newfoundland, Canada (where they beat baby
seals). Prefers rock over free jazz. Grew his
hair long after seeing a photo of the Alice Cooper
Band. Collects rare mushrooms. Trains a best-in-breed
Scottish Deerhound named Cyril.

Pennywise
Get New Vocalist. |
 |
 |
Tuesday 16th
February 2010
South Bay punk pioneers Pennywise have announced
that Zoli Teglas of Orange County’s Ignite,
is the band’s new and permanent lead singer.
After months of searching, the members of Pennywise
announced that Ignite vocalist Zoli Teglas is
now officially the new front man. Teglas, a longtime
friend and tour mate, recently played a handful
of So Cal shows with Pennywise, including the
2009 Smokeout Festival and a sold out Holiday
Benefit concert for Amnesty International at Long
Beach Arena.
Teglas will join Pennywise on its upcoming European
tour which kicks off this April. That tour will
be preceded by a few warm up West Coast dates
that start on March 17 in San Diego, CA. Pennywise
is currently at work on a new record, its first
featuring the new lineup.
After the sudden departure of former singer Jim
Lindberg, a member of Pennywise for 19 years,
guitarist Fletcher Dragge called Teglas a “natural
choice” to take over vocal duties for the
band.
Bassist Randy Bradbury explains, “What started
out as a temporary position was just too good
to put an end to. Zoli brings to the table a tremendous
vocal ability, creativity, and a die hard work
ethic. There is a bond that makes this change
feel like it was simply meant to be, and considering
the recent unfortunate events, having Zoli join
the band is a well needed shot of positive energy.”
Teglas was excited to take the stage with his
friends, noting, "I'm stoked to be singing
with Pennywise. I'm a huge fan of the band and
am super grateful to share the stage with my long
time friends Fletcher, Byron and Randy."
Calling it quits was never in the cards for the
remaining members of Pennywise. “We love
this, we love going on the road,” Dragge
explained to AP back in August ’09. “There's
nothing more important to me than being on stage
in front of our fans and having them sing our
lyrics back at us and feel the energy. This has
become so much bigger than just us as a band.
It's become a family and a brotherhood of people
that I feel depend on us. I'm still here to continue
to deliver the message as are Byron and Randy.
Our motto is to follow your dreams and pursue
them. Don't waste time because if you're wasting
time on something you're not into, then you're
not living. We're going to go out there and have
fun doing what we love until it stops being fun.
Pennywise is one of the most significant bands
to emerge from Southern California’s second
wave of punk rock. Formed in 1988 in Hermosa Beach,
California, Pennywise has released nine full-length
studio albums; one live album; two extended plays;
and one DVD. Their most recent studio effort,
Reason to Believe, was released to over 500,000
fans for free through a limited offering from
MySpace Records. The critically acclaimed album
was also sold physically and digitally the world
over. “The Western World,” the first
single from this watershed album, quickly became
the most successful single of the band’s
storied career.
Founded when punk rock couldn’t be less
popular and hair bands were in fashion, Pennywise
quickly developed a style entirely its own--a
tsunami of California hardcore, melodic surf punk
and optimistic anthems that went against the seek-and-destroy
ethos of its era.
“We’ve done things our own way,”
Dragge points out, “and we’ve never
taken no for answer. We’ve been a punk band
for 20 years, and we’ve traveled the world
and we’ve had a lot of people tell us what
we could and couldn’t do. ‘Tell me
what we can’t do, and I’ll try twice
as hard to do it.’ That’s the one
thing this band has taught me: ‘If you want
it bad enough, you can have it.”

Tuesday 16th

influencing an entire generation of bands along
the way.

crazy guy that always said, ‘I know you’ll

book ST for a show and I got this idea...’,”
explains frontman Mike Muir. “Well, one
by one we shot down the unique ideas until one
time he emailed and said the Olympic Auditorium
was being bought by a Korean Church, shouldn’t
it be sent off with a special last gig? The band
agreed and then the work began. The promoter –
Evel Dick Donato who went on to win Big Brother
– tells a bit about the show, making of
etc on the intro. Lots of drama, none more than
the day before the show when I woke up and couldn’t
walk. But the show must go on and the back surgery
would have to wait until afterwards! Suicidal
performed live at the Olympic Auditorium in front
of 4,000 Cycos...but now you can enjoy it in the
safety of your living room.”

(Hed)pe
Tour. |
 |
 |
Monday 15th
February 2010
(hed)pe will be embarking on a 15 date tour in
March 2010 in support of their critically acclaimed
album
“New World Orphans’ which was released
through Suburban Noize Records in June 2009.
It’s a fine return to form for the band
from Huntington Beach, California who mix up punk
rock, hip hop, reggae and metal. From the brutally
charged guitar driven killer first single ‘Renegades’
to the Beastie Boys esque punk rocker ‘Middles
Class Blues’, the bass laden groves of ‘Higher
Ground’ to the Ska influenced ‘Tow
the Line’, (hed)pe have delivered an album
full of contemporary classics.
With every release (hed)pe push the boundaries
of free speech and socially acceptable content.
“For years I have been told to tune down
my lyrics. But great art is supposed to push boundaries.
That is what makes people take notice and question
things. Provocative and thought provoking art
leads to dialogue. And dialogue leads to answers.
And that is what we all want isn’t it? “Answers.”
For this release (hed)pe put out a call to arms
and united an all-star army to deliver their message.
Joining the fight is Strange Music’s Tech
N9ne who appears on the track "Work"
(a song that tackles the media’s perceptions

Five
Finger Death Punch New Single And Microphone Stand. |
 |
 |
Friday 12th
February 2010
US HEAVYWEIGHTS Five Finger Death Punch will have
new single ‘No One Gets Left Behind’
released on March 8th 2010 via Spinefarm Records
UK.
Taken from the band’s latest/second album,
‘War Is The Answer’, and with studio
track ‘Undone’ included as a bonus,
the single will be available on 7” coloured
vinyl (a limited, hand-numbered pressing) and
as a download with a digital booklet.
The artwork for both formats features photos sent
to the group by fans currently serving in the
US military – specifically from Heavy Marine
Helicopter Squadron 462. Since the release of
the debut 5FDP album ‘The Way Of The Fist’
back in 2007, the band have gained increasing
support from US troops on active service, as a
result of which their ‘Death Squad’
motif now regularly features on combat vehicles
& choppers along with the ‘No One Gets
Left Behind’ call to arms.
This latest single, the third from ‘War
Is The Answer’, coincides with 5FDP’s
headline appearance at the Metal Hammer-backed
‘Hammerfest’ event, due to take place
in Prestatyn from March 12th – 14th.
THE PRESTATYN SHOW will also witness the UK unveiling
of a brand new mic stand – the ‘Al
Qa-deathpunch’ – designed for 5FDP
frontman Ivan Moody by Alchemy Studios in the
UK.
Produced in solid stainless steel and weighing
in at a massive 12-13 stone (!), the mic took
over 120 hours to complete, and is a combination
of the “classic Alchemy Gothic style”
along with themes relating to the band’s
‘War Is The Answer’ release.
“This was the most inspiring challenge we’d
encountered in a long time,” says Alchemy
founder Geoff (Deth) Kayson, “weeks of creative
and developmental work, followed by industrial-scale,
white-hot, heavy-duty foundry stuff, but the ‘Al
Qa-deathpunch’ has been worth every minute
of it!
5FDP are expected to announce a further UK festival
appearance for 2010 in the near future.

Cobra
Starship New Single. |
 |
 |
Wednesday
10th February 2010
Cobra Starship are set to release their brand
new single ‘Hot Mess’ on February
15, 2010, via Decaydance/ Fueled By Ramen. It’s
the second single to be taken from their forthcoming
album of the same name (which debuted at number
four on the billboard Top 200 chart in August),
out the same week. The band have also announced
a UK tour which kicks off on February 5 and includes
a date at London’s Shepherds Bush Empire
on February 10.
‘Hot Mess’ follows their recent Top
20 hit single ‘Good Girls Go Bad’,
released in October the track included guest vocals
from Gossip’s Girl’s Leighton Meester.
It was A- listed at Radio 1, whilst the video
(which was nominated for Best Pop Video at the
MTV VMA awards alongside Beyonce, Britney Spears
and Lady Gaga) was playlisted at 4music, Smash
Hits, Kerrang, MTV 2/ Hits and The Box. The track
has so far sold over 1.6 million copies worldwide.
Forthcoming album Hot Mess received a flurry of
ecstatic press reviews stateside with People declaring
it “a sexy, synthed-up come on that proves
irresistible,” whilst Billboard praised
Hot Mess as “full of rhythmic dance songs
and power-pop anthems,” and Rolling Stone
hailed the album as “packed with electro-sleaze
tunes that go over the top in both their bright
sound – sassy hook-singing girls are prevalent
– and wink-wink mien.”
Cobra Starship are the brainchild of ex-Midtown
frontman Gabe Saporta. After the inclusion of
their killer track ‘Bring It (Snakes On
A Plane)’ on the hit movie’s soundtrack
things soon took off and it was time for Gabe
to get a full band together. He enlisted old friends
Alex Suarez and Ryland Blackington from This Is
Ivy League for bass and guitar duties respectively,
and drummer Nate Navarro, Victoria Asher took
on the role of keytar and the line-up was complete.
With the aim of, “teaching hipsters to not
take themselves so seriously and telling emo kids
to stop being pussies”, the band released
their first album - While The City Sleeps, We
Rule The Streets, and extensive tours with the
likes of Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco, and
30 Seconds to Mars soon followed. 2007 saw the
release of the acclaimed “¡Viva La
Cobra!” – which featured the singles
“The City Is At War” and “Guilty
Pleasure”.
Currently on a sold out headline tour across the
US the band are renowned for their killer live
shows (“a riot of colour and flavour”
– Kerrang!). The newly announced dates will
be their first UK shows since May 2009 when they
completed a sold-out UK tour (which included a
date at London’s ULU).
Dates as follows:

Fri 5 MANCHESTER Academy 2
Sat 6 LEEDS Metropolitan University
Sun 7 GLASGOW O2 ABC

The
Smoking Hearts Set To Storm Across The UK. |
 |
 |
Wednesday 10th
February 2010
The Smoking Hearts will be stamping their mark
on the British music scene on March 8th of 2010
with the release of debut album Pride Of Nowhere.
The band has booked up a punk rock collection
of dates around the record’s release. Storming
out of rural England, The Smoking Hearts unleash
a whirlwind combination of relentless punk rock
and cutting rock’n’roll that is best
experienced in the flesh so check out the full
list of dates below.
Graceful is definitely not a word to describe
The Smoking Hearts. Live shows have seen guitar
headstocks smashed and drum kits sprawled across
stages. It is not uncommon to find half the band
on the floor with the crowd and, on occasion,
half the crowd on stage with the band.
In their short career as a band, The Smoking Hearts
have travelled thousands of miles, opening shows
for the likes of Gallows, Bring Me The Horizon,
Winnebago Deal and The Supersuckers, as well as
some iconic acts such as Misfits and Skid Row.
Recorded on a farm in Bedfordshire with Nick Mailing
(Quireboys/Trashlight Vision) and Mastered by
Russ Russell (Napalm Death/The Wildhearts) over
the course of just 14 days (and nights), ‘Pride
of Nowhere’ clocks in at a frantic 29 minutes
and 25 seconds. It is a record for many states
of mind - these are songs that will inspire attitudes
to party, drink, fight. But ultimately it is the
anti-thesis of sitting around and letting things
happen to you; it has everything to do with making
life happen for yourself.

The
More I See New Line Up |
 |
 |
Wednesday
10th February 2010
Following the recent departure of long time members
Gav and Spike The More I See were at a crossroads
and faced with the task of totally rebuilding
and fine tuning their outfit. Founding member
Gizz Butt saw this as a positive opportunity to
put together a band able to deliver at the level
required by his own high standards
The new members had to not only be current, with
technical flair and ability but also possess the
same passion and drive that has become The More
I See’s ethos.
Gizz Butt had this to say on the new line-up:
"We were seriously running on empty without
a spare tank in the back!!! With one member down
and another threatening to leave our fate seemed
sealed and then from out of the blue the Metal
hammer guys got in touch and asked us to perform
at Hammerfest, I knew I had to pull it together
. From then the pieces began to fall in to place.
Drew came in on bass , Harri on drums and I’d
always intended for James to be our 2nd guitarist.
Thanks to all the people around us giving us support
we're ready now. We have the Thrash Metal militia
we've always been looking for and we're gonna
embrace the live scene to show just what we’ve
got. This is it!"
The More I See are set and ready to unleash the
new chapter of the band as they make local, national
and festival appearances. The first leg of the
tour kicks off in their home town of Peterborough,
supporting ex Iron Maiden vocalist Blaze Bayley,
then gearing up for Prestatyn Wales for the sell-out
festival Hammerfest (including Five Finger Death
Punch, Devildriver, Skindred, Napalm Death, Iced
Earth plus many more.
The More I See camp is very excited as there are
more fantastic announcements on the way, including
a new album later this year.

The
Thermals Set To Release New LP. |
 |
 |
Wednesday
10th February 2010
Don't get us wrong - Buffalo, NY is a swell American
town. But it's not the easiest city to play, ask
any band! So when The Thermals, on a recent tour,
found themselves staring down the barrel of a
less-than-spectacular night in Buffalo, The Thermals
comforted themselves with the thought that the
next day they were headed for CANADA. Toronto,
to be exact, where they would headline an amazing
sold out show at The Horseshoe Tavern. Sitting
in the van in Buffalo, Thermals guitarist and
singer Hutch Harris picked up a guitar and strummed
a few chords, and sang a few lines about going
to CANADA. Kathy Foster walked up and sang "Whoa
Whoa-Oh Whoa!" as if on cue. Drummer Westin
Glass set a fat beat to it at soundcheck et voila,
"Canada". Seriously, I'm not making
this up. I mean, listen to the song. It doesn't
sound like it took The Thermals longer than half
an hour to write "Canada". But therein
lies its brilliance! Totally off the cuff, yet
totally sincere, "Canada" is an instant
classic, a raucous, joyous ode to our brothers
and sisters to the north. CANADA! Where everyone
is funny, friendly and ready to have a beer or
seven with you. CANADA! Where we'll have everything
we need! CANADA! The country we aspire to be.
Six Degrees of "CANADA" : The lyrics
to "Canada" contain the line "Sittin'
all alone / Pick up the phone and call Ramona
/ Go to Canada". Ramona refers to Thermals
sound woman Anna Lockwood, who sometimes goes
by the name Ramona Flowers, a character in the
Canadian comic book Scott Pilgrim, by Canadian
author Bryan Lee O'Malley. Scott Pilgrim is published
by Oni Press, who share a hometown of Portland,
Oregon with The Thermals. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The
World, a live-action film adaptation of the comic
starring Canadian actor Michael Cera, is due in
August of this year. Scott Pilgrim is named after
a song by the Canadian band Plumtree.
The Thermals are currently finishing their 5th
LP, Personal Life, with producer Chris Walla (Death
Cab For Cutie, Tegan and Sara). Kill Rock Stars
will release it September 7, 2010. The Thermals
will soon tour The US West Coast, Australia, CHINA,
US East Coast, and finally CANADA in July.

Wednesday 10th
February 2010
MELODIC DEATH/DOOM maestros Swallow The Sun are

Guesting with Swedish heavyweights Katatonia on
their forthcoming ‘New Night Over Europe’
2010 series of dates.
The tour, which takes in 14 different European
countries, is set to kick off on March 3rd, with
the UK leg running from March 9th – 14th.
The full list of dates is as follows:-
MARCH 2010

10th – Nottingham, Rock City
11th – London, Garage
12th – Prestatyn, Wales (Hammerfest II festival)
13th – Cardiff, Barfly
14th – Wolverhampton, Little Civic
Swallow The Sun released their latest/fourth full-length
studio album on November 30th 2009 via Spinefarm
Records UK.
Produced & mixed by Jens Borgen (Opeth, Paradise
Lost, etc.) and featuring eight brand new tracks,
this is the follow-up release to 2008’s
‘Plague Of Butterflies’ mini-album,
and is the first to feature new drummer Kai Hahto,
who replaces Pasi Pasanen.
According to STS guitarist/mainman Juha Raivio,
this album “is the most progressive, sorrowful
& beautiful we have done so far… and
the most evil as well! This time around, you can
never be sure where the songs are going to take
you. The depths of hell and heaven are carved
deep into these songs.”
Raivio, a longstanding fan of Marillion, met up
with Steve Rothery (guitarist with the longstanding
UK Progsters) when STS were touring the UK as
guests to Apocalyptica back in 2008 – with
the result that Rothery now lends his skills to
the track “Servant Of Sorrow”. This
version of the song appears as a bonus cut on
first single from the album, ‘New Moon’,
now available as a digital release.

Dreadzone
Album And Tour |
 |
 |
Monday 8th
February 2010
April 26th 2010 sees the release of the much anticipated
Dreadzone album EYE ON THE HORIZON. Reflecting
the bands illustrious past and innovative releases,
EYE ON THE HORIZON firmly picks up where the bands
popular top 20 chart hit LITTLE BRITAIN left off.
It reinvents the band with ten tracks that signify
the move into fully formed songwriting against
a backdrop of dubwise dancabilty. This style helped
them to become one of the UK's original dance
music pioneers , with a style that has since spawned
many sub genres. MCing and reggae vocals partner
the mix of live guitars, electronic beats and
dub bass to perfection. The album features iconic
samples (notably, the legendary theme from Long
Good Friday on Gangster, a spoken word piece from
Woody Guthrie and Dennis Browns Greensleeves classic
Whip Them Jah on American Dread) all of which
compliment the bass and beat heavy Dreadzone style
perfectly.
The Dreadzone story began with Alan McGee‘s
Creation Records and their first groundbreaking
album 360, continuing with major waves their seminal
1995 album SECOND LIGHT picking up support from
John Peel (who included the album in his top ten
favourite albums of all time). The top 20 hit
from that album LITTLE BRITAIN has since gone
on to acquire classic status. Five critically
acclaimed albums later they are set to remind
people why the Dread sound is still very much
a part of the musical landscape of this country.
The core members Greg Dread, original bassmaster
Leo Williams, the unmistakable MC Spee, legendary
Studio One vocalist Earl 16 alongside Chris Compton
on guitar and Chris Oldfield on technology make
up the new line up. The bands influence extends
not only out into the current scene as one of
the pioneers of dub based music in this country,
but rewinding to back in the day as the rhythm
section of Mick Jones’ Big Audio Dynamite
in the 80s . Their roots are embedded in the history
of West London sound clash and with a drum and
bass partnership of 25 years this year Leo and
Greg are still rolling strong and rocking the
nation with their distinctive rhythms.
Dreadzone are set to roll like thunder again with
a string of live dates bringing the music and
ingenuity of this unique British group to the
people. Major UK and European fesival appeareances

Welcome
To The Parlotones |
 |
 |
Monday 8th
February 2010
A sold-out 300-date world tour over the last 18
months has brought The Parlotones to the attention
of music fans in Germany, Russia, France, Italy,
Spain, Austria and the US and after packing out
1000+ capacity venues in the UK by word of mouth
alone, this internationally successful band are
now set to mount a serious assault on the UK’s
charts.
With all eyes on South Africa as they prepare
to host this year’s World Cup, the country’s
most successful indie-rock band The Parlotones
look set to cement their position on the global
stage with exciting new single ‘Life Design.’
Taken from their forthcoming album ‘Stardust
Galaxies’, ‘Life Design’ is
an anthemic call to arms. Influenced by a youth
spent listening to UK bands such as The Cure and
The Smiths, it acts as a perfect introduction
to the widescreen appeal behind The Parlotones
sound.
Bands such as Razorlight and The Smashing Pumpkins
have supported them at stadium shows in their
home country and the band’s profile is such
that they were also chosen to play at Live Earth,
Africa Day. The subsequent performance was screened
to millions all over the world. Their innovative,
big-production music videos have been nominated
for MTV awards and the band won two awards at
the prestigious ISC (International Song Contest),
in the US, judged by the likes of Robert Smith,
Tom Waits and Rob Thomas.
With a phenomenal buzz building behind the band
and, all signs are that in a World Cup year when
all eyes are on South Africa, The Parlotones will
soon have the world at their feet.

Karnivool
To Release New Single And Tour The UK In March. |
 |
 |
Monday 8th
February 2010
Following the release of their critically acclaimed
album, “Sound Awake”, in late 2009,
Karnivool are set to release a new single and
tour the UK in March 2010.
“Sound Awake” shows a band at the
height of their powers – and the album went
Gold in Australia after just three weeks. From
the jagged driving guitars and epic chorus of
lead single “Set Fire To The Hive”
to the bass lead “Goliath”, to the
soaring melodies of current single “All
I Know” to the brooding and then balls out
rock of “New Day”, this is an album
that is gloriously anthemic, yet progressive in
every sense of the word. Rock bombast combined
with innovative riffing, experimental tuning,
intriguing time-signatures and spine-tingling
melodies. The album was produced by Forrester
Savell (Helmet, The Butterfly Effect).
The forthcoming single, “All I Know”,
features another trademark stunning Karnivool
video – available now on the bands myspace.
Already established as one of Australia’s
biggest rock bands Karnivool are set to take the
UK (and world) by storm in 2010 – something
that over 2.2 million myspace views can attest
to. Since forming in 1997 the Perth based five
piece recorded two critically acclaimed EPs before
releasing their debut album “Themata”
in 2005. The debut saw them shifting over 32,000
albums independently in Australia and consequently
signing an international licensing deal with Bieler
Bros. Karnivool quickly established themselves
as one of the premier rock bands in their homeland
and a stunning live draw.
The band are consummate performers - the ace in
their sleeve being the magnetic stage presence
and savant-like singing ability of frontman Ian
Kenny. They supported Skindred on their sold out
UK tour in October 2009. Currently part of the
bill alongside Muse, Kasabian, Mastodon and Dizzee
Rascal of the sold out Australian Big Day Out
tour, the band are set to tour Europe and America
through 2010 with a series of headline dates in
the UK in March. The UK dates are as follows
Thurs 11th March 2010 Manchester, Roadhouse
Fri 12th March King Tuts, Glasgow
Sat 13th March Rock City, Nottingham
Sun 14th March Joiners, Southampton

Enter
Shikari Had To Cnacel Blackpool Show On Saturday. |
 |
 |
Monday 8th
February 2010
Due to circumstances beyond anyone's control,
Enter Shikari were forced to cancel their show
at Blackpool Empress Ballroom on Saturday night
(6th Feb). During the band's soundcheck, structural
issues with the building came to light, and Health
& Safety officers pulled the show.
Suffice to say, everyone in the Enter Shikari
camp are “Gutted... It looked and sounded
incredible in there, and indeed it would have
gone off big-time, were the show to go ahead as
planned.”
The band spent four and a half hours sitting and
talking with disappointed fans and explaining
the situation.
Enter Shikari and their management would like
to take this opportunity to say thank you to all
the fans who, though obviously upset, were understanding,
plus thank you to the security team for their
sterling work under difficult circumstances.
There will be a rescheduled date as soon as possible,
although whether this date will happen in Blackpool
is still uncertain. It will unfortunately not
be at the Empress Ballroom.
Tickets for Blackpool will remain valid for the
make-up show, or refunds are available at point
of purchase.
The remainder of the tour will, of course, continue
as planned.

Judas
Priest - British Steel Re-release. |
 |
 |
Monday 8th
February 2010
Sony Music are pleased to announce the imminent
release of a limited deluxe expanded edition of
Judas Priest’s seminal album, “British
Steel”, on the 10th May 2010
“British Steel” was the sixth studio
album by Judas Priest. Released on the 14th April
1980 and produced by Tom Allom, ‘British
Steel’ was recorded at Tittenhurst Park
in England - a mansion owned at the time by former
Beatle Ringo Starr, and previously owned by John
Lennon and Yoko Ono.
‘British Steel’ has long been considered
one of metals all-time classics. It was with this
release that Priest truly broke through to the
masses, with a pair of tracks that have become
fixtures on rock radio - the enduring anthems
“Breaking the Law” and “Living
After Midnight.” But like all classic albums,
there is not a single weak track detected on ‘British
Steel,’ as evidenced by such standouts as
the perennial concert highlight, “Metal
Gods”, as well as “Rapid Fire”,
“Grinder”, “United” and
“The Rage”, amongst others.
In 2001, the album was remastered and reissued
with extra bonus tracks, and also, was the subject
of an in-depth study as part of the popular ‘Classic
Album’ TV series.
In 2009 Judas Priest performed the “British
Steel” album in its entirety for the first
time ever as part of their 30th anniversary USA
tour. A filmed recording of the show on the 17th
August 2009 at The Seminole Hard Rock Arena, Hollywood,
Florida, USA - will be included in both the limited
edition deluxe and deluxe releases. The show was
captured in front of a vibrant American audience
and in full 5.1 surround and stereo sound. Known
for their high-energy and spectacular stage shows
the band played the entire British Steel album
in sequence as well as a number of other well-know
tracks from their catalogue.
The live concert was mixed in stereo and 5.1 by
the original British Steel producer Tom Allom.
In addition, the DVD will include the bonus content
of ‘The Making Of British Steel’,
a 30 minute doc featuring the 4 original band
members. This new DVD brings the live Priest experience
like no other live recording.
The deluxe expanded edition will come in two formats
- Limited edition deluxe 3 disc to include original
album, live DVD and live cd
- Deluxe 2 disc to include original album plus
live DVD
Judas Priest are one of the true classic heavy
metal bands, who for three decades have travelled
the world putting on spectacular stage shows,
and thrilling audiences everywhere, they have
been making music that over the years has influenced
many and have sold over 30 million albums worldwide.
They are a band who have shaped the music of generations
– in addition to “British Steel”
releasing classic albums such as “Painkiller”

Young
Guns Tour And Free Track |
 |
 |
Sunday 7th
February 2010
By the time hotly-tipped, High Wycombe quintet
YOUNG GUNS unleashed recent single ‘Winter
Kiss’ to the masses, it had been just over
a year since they emerged to an unsuspecting UK
rock scene. Since debuting with digital single
‘In The Night’ last January, a track
that was also included on their debut EP ‘Mirrors’
at the end of the June, the band has hardly been
off the road.
Having toured the UK with the likes of Lostprophets,
Taking Back Sunday and Fightstar, as well as much
talked about appearances at the Kerrang! Tour
2010, Download, Sonisphere and Slam Dunk festivals,
their time spent on the road has set the band
up as one of the most talked about unsigned UK
bands of recent times. In addition, their relentless
and faultless work ethic has helped the band build
a solid fan-base foundation that they continue
to build upon.
‘Winter Kiss’ was the first new material
since the EP offered up by the band, who are currently
on their fourth pressing of the ‘Mirrors’
EP, having already shifted 4,000+ copies and counting
since June. The single has already been downloaded
over 4,000 times as well as picking up support
from Fearne Cotton, Nick Grimshaw, Zane Lowe and
Daniel P Carter at Radio 1 as well as within the
UK rock press. The band were also announced winners
of Kerrang! and Rock Sound magazine’s ‘Best
New Band’ and ‘Best British Newcomer’
readers polls categories for 2009.
Monday the 8th of February sees the band head
into the studio to record their as yet untitled
debut album, set for release at the end of July.
Following the albums completion, the band head
off to Europe with Chicago rockers Madina Lake,
taking in an appearance at Groezrock Festival
in the process, before returning to home shores
to undertake a headline tour of their own. Dates

The
Smoking Hearts Free Download. |
 |
 |
Sunday 7th
February 2010
The Smoking Hearts will be stamping their mark
on the British music scene on March 8th of 2010
with the release of debut album Pride Of Nowhere.
Storming out of rural England, The Smoking Hearts
unleash a whirlwind combination of relentless
punk rock and cutting rock’n’roll.
With Pride Of Nowhere, the band deftly call upon
their arsenal of screaming vocals, ruthless guitars
and thunderous beats. The resulting effect is
13 ferocious blasts that shout out loud “be
who you want to be”. Pride Of Nowhere is
a record full of anger and frustration at a world
that demands conformity and mindless ritual. It
tells the story of five reprobates who like to
have fun, rock out, and have a good time all the
time. Taking digs at the common work environment
“we hope you all choke on your nine to five”,
and former loves “looks like The Ritz but
she’s The Bates Motel”, The Smoking
Hearts also highlight their philosophies of life
with lyrics like “We’ll raise a toast
to the ones that hate us most”.
Recorded on a farm in Bedfordshire with Nick Mailing
(Quireboys/Trashlight Vision) and Mastered by
Russ Russell (Napalm Death/The Wildhearts) over
the course of just 14 days (and nights), this
13 song opus clocks in at a frantic 29 minutes
and 25 seconds.
“It’s about doing what you want and
not taking shit for doing so” says Bassist
Calvin. “So many people are happy to live
their lives without ever stopping to consider
whether they are doing what they really want to
do, or if they are just content to become their
parents and grow old gracefully. Fuck that.”
Graceful is definitely not a word to describe
The Smoking Hearts. Live shows have seen guitar
headstocks smashed and drum kits sprawled across
stages. It is not uncommon to find half the band
on the floor with the crowd and, on occasion,
half the crowd on stage with the band.
In their short career as a band, The Smoking Hearts
have travelled thousands of miles, opening shows
for the likes of Gallows, Bring Me The Horizon,
Winnebago Deal and The Supersuckers, as well as
some iconic acts such as Misfits and Skid Row.
Pride Of Nowhere is a record for many states of
mind - these are songs that will inspire attitudes
to party, drink, fight. But ultimately it is the
anti-thesis of sitting around and letting things
happen to you; it has everything to do with making
life happen for yourself.

Slash
To Release Solo Album. |
 |
 |
Thursday 4th
February 2010
In what will be his first true solo album, rock
icon Slash announced today his album, “Slash”,
will be released in the UK on the 10th May 2010
through Roadrunner Records. The album features
an all-star roster of guest musicians including
Ian Astbury, Chris Cornell, Rocco DeLuca, Fergie,
Dave Grohl, Myles Kennedy, Kid Rock, Lemmy Kilmister,
Adam Levine of Maroon 5, Duff McKagan, M. Shadows
of Avenged Sevenfold, Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop,
and Andrew Stockdale of Wolfmother.
A major undertaking for Slash, he enlisted services
of producing partner Eric Valentine (Queens of
Stone Age, The All-American Rejects) and compiled
a rhythm section of bassist Chris Chaney (Jane’s
Addiction) and drummer Josh Freese (Nine Inch
Nails). Slash handled the majority of arranging
and songwriting duties and hand-picked each guest
artist. The album’s guests worked collaboratively
with Slash to round out the song.
“The idea was really simple in the beginning,”
said Slash. “These are all artists I wanted
to work with – that I thought it would be
amazing to do something creative and collaborative.
And I was so impressed with what everyone brought
to the table. They were all so committed to doing
a good job. And we had a lot of fun making these
songs.”
In the UK “Slash” will also see Roadrunner
Records enter into a unique and innovative association
with a U.K. media partner – the special-interest
media group, Future. In a brand new concept in
record distribution the standard album release
will be preceded by a “fan pack”,
in which the Roadrunner Records album will be
bundled together with a highly-collectable special
issue of Future Publishing’s Classic Rock
magazine dedicated to Slash’s career. The
Slash "Fan Pack" featuring his debut
solo album from Roadrunner Records, along with
a 132-page "Classic Rock Presents: Slash"
special will have a cover
price of £14.99 and will be available on
magazine newsstands nationwide, in over 3000 non
conventional music retail outlets such as WHSmith,
all supermarket chains and many independent high
street newsagents
SLASH BACKGROUND
Slash is widely considered one of the greatest
rock guitar players of all time. He has received
countless accolades and awards including a 2007
star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame alongside his
idols Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix. An original
member of iconic rock band Guns N’ Roses,
Slash helped the band create signature sounds
like the
guitar riff of #1 hit “Sweet Child o’
Mine” and “Welcome To The Jungle.”
The band dominated the 1980’s and 90’s
music scene selling more than 100 million albums
worldwide and ushered in a decade of hard charging
rock music. After the band’s break-up, Slash
went on to critical acclaim in his personal project
Slash’s Snakepit, and global success with
supergroup Velvet Revolver. He has been widely
sought after by the biggest musicians of all time,
performing with everyone from Michael Jackson
to Stevie Wonder to Ray Charles. Slash is one
of the marquee playable characters in Guitar Hero

and authored his own top-selling biography Slash

The
Features Release Some Kind Of Salvation. |
 |
 |
Thursday 4th
February 2010
Kings Of Leon will proudly release ‘Some
Kind Of Salvation, the new album by Tennessee
brethren The Features. Having toured with The
Features supporting throughout the UK & US,
the band fell in love with their sound, energy
and explosive live show.
“We’ve been long-time supporters of
The Features, they’re one of the best undiscovered
bands in the world and we’re excited to
be releasing Some Kind of Salvation.” said
Jared Followill of Kings of Leon.
Produced by Grammy-Award winning Jacquire King
(Modest Mouse, Kings Of Leon, Tom Waits, Sea Wolf)
and Brian Carter at his Paradox Production facility
in Murfreesboro, TN. The band features Matthew
Pelham (guitar, lead vocals), Roger Dabbs (bass
guitar), Mark Bond (keyboards) and Rollum Haas
(drums).
‘Some Kind Of Salvation’ weaves a
sound that can be described as a bulging mix of
scrappy white-boy soul. The Features’ influences
run the gamut of popular music over the last 50
years, whereas some bands arrange certain songs
to sound like this-or-that-era, The Features just
let the musical pieces they've picked up through
the years fall back into place, giving them an
identity all their own.
The Features formed at middle school in Sparta,Tennessee,
a small Southern town that boasts bluegrass picker
Lester Flatt as its claim to fame. Founding members
Pelham and Dabbs relocated to the college town
of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and recruited the talents
of drummer Rollum Haas, who was already a fan
of the band and keyboardist Mark Bond.
This inventive new label venture is the culmination
of a creative deal with Bug Music and Kings Of
Leon through a co-venture with SLG's 429 Records,
via Proper Records in the UK.

Motion
Picture Soundtrack Mini Tour And New Single |
 |
 |
Thursday 4th
February 2010
Building on the successful release of their critically
acclaimed ‘Departure EP’, Kent-based
alt-rock band Motion Picture Soundtrack launch
into 2010 with their huge second single ‘Glass
Figures’ though Endgame Records.
Produced by Paul Schroeder (The Stone Roses, The
Verve), Cenzo Townshend (Editors, Bloc Party,
Klaxons) and Bob Ludwig (RATM, Radiohead, Tool...)
‘Glass Figures’ precedes the release
of their debut album ‘The Shapes We Fear
Are Of Our Own’ (1st March) with a thunderous,
engaging, Jeff Buckley/Editors-esque crossover
that comes at you ‘like a shower of knives’.
The material, slightly darker and heavier than
their previous release ‘Departure’
sees Motion Picture Soundtrack once again assert
themselves as not only masters of the crescendo
but excellent at uniting thoughtful tender moments
with out and out crushing rock. The manifesto
is simple - to create music to move the listener.
It’s intricate - but under the bands complete
control - and made to seem effortless.
2010 sees the band fulfilling the promise of that
first XFM review. The sonic swirling of their
sound draws a definitive line between the patient,
brooding and stylistic MPS - a band with real
staying power - and the countless fly by night
acts that clog up much of the community. With
people across the UK taking a deeper interest
in their work and an ever-increasing number of
fans discovering the power of the live show, they
are truly a band to connect with. The coming year
could well be theirs.
