Interview With Sharks - 3rd August 2012
Photo Of SharksMarc caught up with James, Carl and Andrew from Sharks to talk about their debut album, playing Hevy festival and much more.

You guys have been together for a few years now, how did you actually form?
James : Formed five years ago just out of school for something to do rather than look for a serious job.

Who would you say your main musical influences are?
James : Our main musical influences, let's see. Replacements, The Cure, the Smiths.

Carl: Clash, I went there.

Andrew: Replacements, what else did you say? laughs

You released "No Gods" back in march, how would you say it's gone down with press and fans?
James : It's gone down well. The Reviews where nice, the shows have been cool. we haven't really done much else.

How did you find the recording procedure?
James : It was interesting, we did it in Baltimore Maryland with Brian Mcturlan whose a cool guy, good producer. We did it as a three piece which isn't really our thing, we use to doing it live. So if there's one thing we would have changed about that is got Carl back in a time machine and done it live.

What do you think your favourite tracks are off the album?
James : God I duno.

Carl : We have certain ones that we play live pretty much all the time, Arcane Effigies, Patient spider and No gods.

Andrew: Look is a good one to play live.

Carl Yeah look is a good one to play live.

James : Look, there's a song called look we're going to do our next video for because we like that one.

Has that always been one of your favourites or has it grown on you?
James : That's a grower, it's a real grower.

Carl Yeah because we haven't really played that one much but recently we've played it a lot. We've thrown it into the mix now and it sounds good.

James : The reception for that songs been a surprise.

Carl We pull it off live.

How does it feel to be playing Hevy festival?
James : S'allright, we played it a few years ago when it was in the other location when it was on concrete. But it seems bigger and busier . Very happy for the organisers it seems very successful.

Have you seen many other bands?
James : Not today. If we were staying there's Descendents, Converge, H20, Andrew WK.

So your supporting Billy Talent later in the year, how did that come about?
James : They're fans of the band, they wanted us to play, we said yes.

Other than this, Billy Talent and Boardmasters have you got much planed?
James: Yeah, we've got Australia with Pennywise and the Menzinggers coming up this month and then Japan after.

Where do you see yourselves in a year's time?
Carl: Still doing this.

James : Yeah I duno.

Any Plans for a second album?
James : Yeah I reckon the second album would be coming out around this time next year.

Our last question and we ask everyone this would you rather be a Zebra or a Giraffe?
Carl: Zebra

Andrew: Zebra

James: why

Carl: I think Zebra's look

Andrew: They look cooler.

James : They look cooler yeah.

You've got to agree as a group.

Carl: Well I'll convince James why a zebra's better than a giraffe

James: you're just like a superior horse

Carl : Yeah but if you were a Giraffe and you were with a whole bunch of Giraffes and there are only so many tree's around so you're going to eat of the leaves and your probably not able to reach the grass. And there's lots of grass. Plus they look cool.

Andrew: I'd rather be a camp horse.

James : yeah cuz like...nah I'm not going to do it.

Oh go on you've got to do it.

James : What do gay horses eat?

I dunno what do they eat?

James : Hayy *Hand flick and camp voice* And we'll end on that.
