Single Review
Black Lips - DrugsBlack Lips – Drugs

I really tried my hardest to get into the Black Lips album ‘200 Million Thousand’ but my efforts failed miserably as I really couldn’t find anything positive to about the album, it could be down to the fact that the band just don’t fit in the big diverse collection of music that I am into or it could be that Black Lips are simply quite shocking, anyway I will leave everyone to make their own mind up on that, whilst I tell you about the bands new single ‘Drugs’ which is released on the 24th August.

‘Drugs’ see’s Black Lips team up with Faris Rotter from The Horrors, now in my eyes I couldn’t see a mix of artists any worse than this as I think pretty much the same of The Horrors as I do of Black Lips, and I think both bands are like marmite, you either love or hate them. ‘Drugs’ is a song that is about the band simply driving around and taking drugs like you do, musically the song sounds like it is from way back in the 60’s with the way that it sounds like it was recorded in a real dark basement on an cheap tape recorder, the song does surprisingly have a bit of a catchy vibe about it and I can imagine a bunch of hippies spinning around listen to this after having a massive joint.

The b-side ‘I’ll Be With You’ is the song that features Faris Rotter from The Horrors, or should I say Lumina as he likes to known here, the song is very dark and creepy sounding and overall feels like Marilyn Manson after taking too much ketamine, with very drowny vocals and minimum efforts overall, if you want an alternative to sleeping pills then this song could well become your best friend.

I have said all I can on Black Lips and the various songs they have released in the past, my mind hasn’t changed with the release of ‘Drugs’, instead I just feel very depressed and am need of some happy music to perk me up, if you are in a daring mood give ‘Drugs’ a listen but don’t hope for too much or you could well be disappointed.
