The Gaslight Anthem - Old White LincolnThe Gaslight Anthem - Old White Lincoln

The Gaslight Anthem are one of the surprise new bands of 2008 that have come from nowhere to become one of the hottest new punk bands that are totally taking the UK by storm, okay they are not a new band but to the UK they technically are. I first heard of the band when they released their debut single 'The 59 Sound' which happened to be one of the most catchiest sing along tunes that I have heard in a long time and the overall sound of the band during that song reminded me of a retro sounding Alkaline Trio which in my eyes is a very positive thing.

December the 1st sees The Gaslight Anthem head back over to the UK to play a short but sweet 4 date tour and to coincide with the tour they are releasing their new single 'Old White Lincoln' on the 1st December which is the exact day that their duties in the UK start again.

'Old White Lincoln', is one top tune, seriously I haven’t heard a new band come up with songs this bouncy and damn right catchy for a very long time, the lyrics are very well written and are so infectious, after just a couple of listens of this song you will find yourself singing along "You and your high top sneakers and your sailor tattoos. Your old '55 that you drove through the roof." with frontman Brian Fallon and as soon as the song has finished I am sure the play button will be pressed again and again. Even when not listening to this song once the infectious lyrics have gotten into your head it will take a lot to shake them off, they have been going around in my head for days now and I’m loving every minute of it.

The b-side to the single is a live acoustic version of 'The 59' Sound', anyone who has heard the original version of this song will know how beautiful the song is, well the acoustic version is just as good if not better, I really have a soft spot for acoustic music mainly because songs get stripped down to basics and it gives the vocalist time to shine being a one man band with his acoustic guitar and set of vocals. The acoustic version of the song isn’t as bouncy as the original but it is a really good song that you can easily get into and sing your heart out to, it’s the kind of song that would go down well at festivals with your friends sat around a camp fire with that one guy who always trys to run the show with his acoustic guitar.

The Gaslight Anthem are a really important band that’s doing the music scene really proud, they write good tunes and play with such passion, everyone needs these guys in their life.

5/5
