Over the past few weeks there has been no escaping
Duffy, she has appeared on pretty much every TV
channel and chat show promoting her new single 'Mercy',
the single has since gone on and topped the UK singles
chart and is sitting there nicely for the second
week running. Duffy released her debut single 'Rockferry'
back at the end of 2007 but the single didn’t
bring that much success to Duffy, so what does 'Mercy'
have that her previous effort didn’t?
'Mercy' has a similar introduction to 'Listen
Up!' by The Gossip and Duffy’s vocals even
remind me of Beth Ditto slightly. 'Mercy' does
have a slight retro sound about it and Duffy’s
vocals are quite soulful and strong sounding making
the song a really listenable number.
Duffy is due to release her debut album Rockferry
in early March, the album has been quite hyped
up which could be down to the success of 'Mercy'
and if so lets hope that the album has more tracks
the quality of 'Mercy' on it. From what I have
heard so far I think Duffy is going to become
one of the huge solo artists of 2008.
