Caliban - GravityCaliban - Gravity

These German guys came along back when my days of under 18 clubs and side parting were in full force and they were… Well the best word is different to what they are today. Stereotypical metal core with Whiney clean vocals so naturally “it’s Our Burden to Bleed” was my favorite song which I can’t even listen to without having an almighty seizure of cringe ensue. In recent years they’ve popped back up again into my life and the new stuff is quite experimental and very different from anything they’ve produced before. The change started in 2009 with Say Hello To Tragedy which was that bit less melodic than the others had been; followed up with I Am Nemesis and then Ghost Empire which were the most experimental albums to date both of which had their differences to each other proving they were still looking for the right style.

Now we have Gravity for 2016. I must quite simply say it has contention for my best album of 2016 already I am absolutely head over heels in love with it! It has melody, high tempo, slow tempo, aggression, electronic experimentation, growls, clean and most importantly it just flows from start to finish. I’ll just list my favourites because I can; “Mein Schwarzes Herz”, “The Oceans Heart”, “No Dream Without A Sacrifice”, “Paralyzed” and “brOken”… and “Left For Dead”… and “Who I Am”.. and “Crystal Skies”… you get the point by now right? Every single song has a 5 star rating on my iPod, all except the remixes at the end I wasn’t too fond of those but everything else is top notch!

I don’t know if everyone else will agree, it could just be another metal album to others. All I know is that I stuck it on just to pass some time and become instantly hooked, give it a chance and give me your feedback!
