EP Review
The Audition - Chapter 2The Audition – Chapter 2

I have to be honest I have never been a big fan of The Audition especially after seeing them support Alkaline Trio 3 times back in 2009 but since then a lot has happened for The Audition such as leaving Victory Records back in 2010 and working on their latest EP ‘Chapter II’ which see’s the band move on from their split from Victory Records and open another chapter of their long running musical career.

‘Chapter 2’ is one of the bravest moves The Audition have ever made as they have slightly changed their sound and proper toned their production, and pretty much hand their filthy hands all over the EP with full control and it has really paid off as ‘Chapter 2’ has 6 really listenable songs and showcases The Audition sounding better than they ever have.

The EP opens with ‘Who Do You Think You Are’ which is a pure pop-punk song that sounds as smooth and sexual as the music of Panic At The Disco and All Time Low put into a blender for a big arse crazy mix, it’s extremely bouncy sounding with Danny Stevens giving his best vocal performance to date.

‘You Make Me Sick’ see’s The Audition knock out some great acoustic sounds whilst Danny Stevens takes you on an infectious ride with his melodic vocals which really shine and stand out during the pop-tastic chorus which is so big sounding that it would make a Giraffe feel small.

‘Evil’ is about as evil as any of your favourite Disney Pixar movies in the way that it is very far from evil, instead in is yet another slice of infectious material from The Audition and another solid sounding song under their belts.

The rest of the EP continues in a catchy way but see’s The Audition verging on a more rock based sound with soothing vocals running throughout ‘Back And Forth’ and ‘You Gotta Believe’ , whilst the EP closer ‘Talkin’ see’s the band fully rock out and close the EP in style.

Considering that I have never been a major fan of The Audition I feel they have done amazingly well with ‘Chapter 2’, I am not sure how it will go down with existing fans of the band but I can see that this new chapter and fresh start for The Audition will easily gain them a whole new larger fan base.

4/5
