The Blackout are a six piece Screamo band from Wales and have already made
a good name of themselves supporting the Lostprophets on many of occasions,
playing the Give It A Name festival in both London and Manchester and currently
touring mainland Europe with the Lostprophets again as well as receiving
a nomination in the Kerrang awards. The band have just released there debut
six track ep titled 'The Blackout! The Blackout! The Blackout!' which also
features Ian Watkins from the Lostprophets doing guest vocals on 'It's High
Tide Baby'.
The ep opens up with 'I'm A Riot? You're A Fucking Riot', which starts
off with a huge riff and hectic drumming. The duel vocals work well with
the mixture of screamo and more sing a long vocals, which ups the ep up
in a good hectic way. Next up is 'Hard Slammin' which is another hectic
sounding track and once again the duel vocals work really well and the
band really come together for the sing a long chorus.
Ian Watkins from the Lostprophets features on 'It's High Tide Baby',
which is different from anything else on the album and is a really catchy
poppy punk track pretty similar to the songs you can find on the latest
Lostprophets album, definitely the standout track on the album. 'You and
your Friends VS ME and the Revolution' sounds like a reworked title of
an old Lostprophets song, but musically sounds like the Blackouts hardcore
screamo sound.
'Fashion Conscious Suicide' finishes the ep off and starts with a forty
second musical introduction before the assault of screamo vocals come
in shortly followed by the more sing a long vocals which mix well together.
Overall the Blackout are a good band and I can see them following in
the footsteps of their fellow Welsh bands such as Funeral for A Friend
and the Lostprophets. Especially seeing that whatever the Blackout does,
Ian Watkins is near by.
