Single Review
Lucius – EnemyLucius – Enemy

Before I give you my thoughts on this single, I'm going to describe the elements I'm hearing, and you will probably be able to work out where I'm going. Electric guitar, rocking out, a limp wavering synth, there's no way those drums were actually recorded, they're surely sequenced, a dull pop-punky vocal, monotonous verses, predictable choruses. Oh it's just disgusting. It's mainly the drums and that ridiculous synth sound that is making me hurl. It's as if they've gone “oh, synths are big these days, let's add one” for absolutely no reason other than because everyone else is. It adds nothing – this could have probably passed as a reasonable rock song if that wasn't there. And yeah it is a little bit Elliot Minor. I tell you what it makes me think of. Imagine if, long ago, Pendulum were all at college, and they were an okay rock pop punk band. Well, okay for seventeen year olds. And then some kid comes in and tells them that they should try dancey shit. And so they take their advice, but way before they make it into the UK Charts with an enormously popular couple of records, they decide to convert one of their own existing songs using some drum sequences (that happen to sound like real drums ish) and a couple of synths. That is what this makes me think of, and that is why I don't like it.
