Album Review
Sergeant – SergeantSergeant – Sergeant

Sergeant are a Fife four-piece offering up another dose of happy-snappy indie – mixing both contemporary styles with other nostalgic dream-pop elements.

Though the main guitar focus centres around the thin twangs of The Smiths, and although there's a tiny bit of The View sneaking through in the lead vocals and harmonies, it's oh so very nineties Bluetones. As previously stated, it's happy-snappy. And not in the religious sense. It's just upbeat and nod your head and enjoy the sunshine. But wait, it's October. And this aint no winter warmer – it begs for sunshine and good vibes galore.

Similar to the View, it's a bit middle of the road. Maybe Sergeant will receive crital acclaim and see major success from an album which is essentially just as average as Hats Off To The Buskers.

For its genre, it's pretty good. Certainly not cutting edge in any way, shape, or form; but it's good.

For me, it really lacks the oomph of a good indie record, you couldn't dance to any of these songs if you tried. There's an inclination to gently sway certainly, but that's your lot.

All the songs sound the same. What started as an album which I wanted to review reasonably, has now become a real bore. I don't want to listen to one forty-three minute song. None of this nineties faff.

2/5
